While much of the world’s collective sights were set on New Orleans Sunday for the Super Bowl, insulating glass manufacturers and their suppliers looked toward the Big Easy a day later, as the 2013 Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance’s (IGMA) annual conference began there today. The five-day event is being held at the Crown Plaza Astor in the French Quarter.
Throughout the week, attendees will see multiple presentations on various aspects of the industry, as well as attend committee and council meetings.
For today’s line-up, IGMA delegates attended an emerging technology and innovation committee meeting as well as a lunch presentation by Dr. Werner Wagner of Sika Services AG, based in Zurich, Switzerland, on “European Gas Loss Testing and Related Benefits.”
Presentations to come include “Use of Fourth-Surface Coatings in a Cold Environment” from Tim Clancy and Lisa Green of Guardian Industries as well as “How to Calculate Glass and Sealant Stress in Insulating Glass Units” by Chris Barry of Pilkington North America.
In a welcome letter to attendees, David J. Cooper, IGMA president, said, “We’re transforming the way we operate to continuously improve our ability to respond to our membership and the IGCC/IGMA and IGMAC certification participants by improving and streamlining the administrative function and providing a top-notch website. Our membership remains strong, with moderate growth—even in these tough economic times … We are proud to be the first organization to create a Glass Safety Council—reporting preventative accidents to the membership and review new glass safety gear.”
