McAskin pursued his college studies at Northern Michigan University and Wayne State University with the intention of becoming a teacher, but glass was in his blood and that led him to Henderson Glass where he learned the trade from his father, Don, according to his family’s statement.
His career in the glass business began at the age of 15.
The family statement shares, “As Mike always said, ‘The glass business has been good to this family.’”
The funeral mass was held March 25 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 20800 Grand River, Detroit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial tributes be made to St. Alexander Church Food Cupboard or Our Lady of Sorrows’ Society of St. Vincent DePaul.
