Texas Glass Industry Sees Surge from Overnight Hailstorm

Several areas in Southeast Texas were struck by an overnight hail storm that saw 20 minutes of baseball- and softball-sized hail, damaging homes, businesses and vehicles in its path. Today, glass shops in the area were working to keep up with the sudden uptick in business.

“It’s pretty hectic,” says David Ozment of Binswanger Glass in Galveston, Texas. “We’ve had 40 to 50 customers call in. For a day or two we’ll see an uptick but it won’t last long. We’re not crying over the increase in business.”

According to reports from The Weather Channel, windows were “blown out of both homes and businesses” during the massive storm.

A representative of Glazing Systems of Texas in nearby Santa Fe, Texas, echoed Ozment. “Yes, we’ve got a lot of business because of it,” said the representative, who declined to be identified. “It’s horrible, absolutely horrible.”

Last night’s storm follows another hail storm that struck nearby Marble Falls, Texas, earlier this week.

“The phones haven’t stopped ringing,” says Jenny Haught of Marble Glass in Marble Falls. “We just wish we had more hands to take care of all the people.
