The Houston Area Glass Association (HAGA) announced that Michiko McMahon was selected as its 2013 scholarship recipient during the organization’s quarterly meeting on July 11. Michiko, the daughter of HAGA member Jim McMahon with CR Laurence, is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship. She attends the University of Houston, where she expects to graduate in 2015.
“College develops your intellect and strengthens your sense of self,” she says. “The actual education component is constantly evolving as you meet new professors and take new classes. The curriculum provides a daily challenge, but the skills and social interactions taken from this environment provide key preparation for succeeding in the professional world.”
The annual scholarship is available to any high school senior or college student referred by a HAGA member. The applicants are judged on a 350-word essay, volunteerism and school transcripts. Applications are made available on December 1st of the year prior to scholarship award.
