Block that Transfer
Pilkington Pyrostop is a fire-rated, impact safety-rated, transparent wall panel that is designed to help block heat transfer. While fire-rated glass typically contains the spread of flame and smoke, some locations (such as stairwells and elevator lobbies) may require a product that can also reduce the transfer of radiant and conductive heat from a fire. In such cases, Pilkington Pyrostop transparent wall panels are an alternative to a solid wall, allowing unrestricted amounts of glass. It meets the impact requirements of CPSC 16CFR1201 Category I and/or Category II, is fire-rated for up to two hours, passes the required hose stream test, and can be installed in the narrow-profile Fireframes, for safety and visibility. It is also listed with Underwriters Laboratories Inc. in large sizes.

Reflecting
SuperLite I-XL is a patented, clear, CPSC Category II impact safety rated, fire protective glazing product that reflects heat back to the fire source. This facilitates safe egress, prevents the fire from spreading to other areas and gives fire fighters additional time to safely access and extinguish the fire, the manufacturer points out. The product is fully listed for 20 minutes and approved by the GSA and authorities having jurisdiction as an alternate material for 45- to 60-minute applications without hose stream in accordance with Section 104.11, Alternative Materials, Design and Methods of Construction and Equipment, of the IBC.
