Inside the Wall
Architectural Glazing Technologies (AGT) has introduced a unitized curtainwall system, Uni-Wall, which is designed for flexibility of design and installation on jobs of all sizes–even small to medium sized projects. Conventional wisdom in the construction market has been that unitized product is best suited for large, repetitive jobs. While those jobs are a natural fit for a factory-assembled product, AGT’s curtainwall system is designed for all types of vertical glazing projects. The Uni-Wall panels are built to be installed completely from inside the building.

LEED-ing Tool
A LEED planning tool designed for use with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system has been introduced by Kawneer Co. Inc. The interactive tool was developed to help architects navigate the LEED certification process, guiding users to the specific products the supplier offers that meet the requirements for each targeted LEED category. Designed for use in the design development stage, the planner ties specific strategies to specific products. It also features sections for potential points and earned points based on the recommended products/principles for each LEED category. This function allows users to estimate the amount of points their projects can earn and track their progress toward certification.

Color Design Tool
Saflex, a unit of Solutia Inc., has introduced the Vanceva Color System Selector, a design tool to help architects select the perfect color from thousands of available choices. Vanceva color interlayers can be combined to create literally thousands of transparent or translucent color options. A basic palette of red, yellow, blue and gray colors in two different light transmission levels can be layered in various combinations to produce more than 1,000 color options. Various levels of white interlayers can be added for a variety of translucent options. Three highly pigmented specialty colors – Deep Red, True Blue and Tangerine – can add bold color in a single interlayer or be combined with white or colored foundational colors to achieve even more distinctive looks. The Vanceva Color Selector highlights more than 275 color possibilities. For each color, the color system selector shows a reflected and transmitted light appearance and lists a range of solar performance properties.

Low Profile Door Rails
C.R. Laurence Co. Inc. (CRL) has introduced low-profile door rails that are designed to allow more glass and less metal in all-glass entry systems. They incorporate the CRL Wedge-Lock glass securing system, designed, engineered and manufactured by CRL for securing glass in commercial door rails. The CRL low-profile door rail measures 2-5/16 inches (59 mm) tall by 1-1/2 inches (38.1 mm) wide, and is made for 1/2-inch (12-mm) tempered glass. Red-E to Ship rails are available in 35-3/4 inch lengths for low-profile door rails and in 120 inches for low-profile sidelite rails. Standard 8-inch patch door rails, as well as custom lengths, also are available. CRL low-profile door rails come with end caps and are ready to install. Also included are installation tools and three inserts for overhead closers, floor closers or pivots. The rails can be supplied with standard 5-pin cylinder locks or can be prepped to receive CRL egress handles. Matching CRL low-profile sidelite rails are designed to complement the doors.

Green Brochure
“Building Green with EFCO” is the title of a new brochure that focuses on the company’s energy-efficient products and its contribution to the health of the planet. The brochure details the company’s products and practices that are designed to create a greener world. It also encourages others to participate in the LEED green building rating system. The company manufactures earth-friendly products that are comprised largely of glass and aluminum–two of the most abundant recyclable materials in the world. Those products include the E-Shade product family, which is designed to reduce solar heat gain and glare while allowing natural daylight into buildings. It is available in five standard lengths and is designed to be integrated with the supplier’s curtainwall systems. E-Lite interior light shelves are engineered to integrate with the curtainwall systems as well as to provide natural daylighting and reduce energy consumption.
