AIA Continuing Education Update
Hot Stuff: Fire-Rated Glazing

In recent years building code requirements for specifying fire-rated glazing products have seen a number of updates and changes. To help the architectural community best understand how and where different fire-rated glass products can be used a number of manufacturers have created AIA continuing education courses. The details for some available courses are listed below.

Architectural Fire Rated Glazing:
An Application Guide (LU hours: 1)

Vetrotech Saint-Gobain
This course is designed to provide an overview of fire-rated glazing products including test standards, building code requirements and performance characteristics relating to fire and impact safety.

Different levels of impact safety relating to glass products are reviewed; methods of radiant heat transfer and its importance are also defined. The course also compares characteristics between fire-resistive and fire-protective glass. www.vetrotech.com

Designing with Fire Rated Glass (LU hours: 1)
Safti First
Created to provide an in-depth look at fire-rated glass, this course has three main goals. First, developers designed the course to help participants simplify their selection of the appropriate fire-rated glass for the specific application based on fire and safety code requirements. The course also helps clarify the difference between fire-protective and fire-resistive glazing requirements and reviews why each is important to the selection of fire-rated glass. It also covers new fire-rated glazing developments.
