Sterling-Allstate Facility Banned from Blue Island, Ill.
The town council of Blue Island, Ill., has voted against a proposal by Sterling Collision Repair and Allstate Insurance to build a repair facility in Blue Island. Allstate recently acquired Sterling, raising the eyebrows of many throughout both the insurance and collision repair/automotive industries. (See November/December 2001 AGRR, page 18, for related story.) Phil Rack, a resident of Blue Island and the publisher of Beyond Parts & Equipment, a newsletter for the collision repair industry, participated in the efforts to block the Sterling-Allstate repair facility.

Speedy Partners with Cooperators
Speedy Auto and Window Glass has partnered with the Cooperators General Insurance Co. to offer customers a discount on the Autowatch 329 Ti anti-theft immobilizer. The immobilizers can be installed at Speedy locations by Vehicle Information Centre of Canada (VICC) technicians.

"We partnered with Speedy because of their large network of outlets across Ontario and the fact that each outlet has a VICC-trained technician," said Rob Martin, director of marketing at Cooperators. In exchange for the additional business it will receive through this partnership, Speedy has reduced the price of the Autowatch 329 Ti anti-theft device, which keeps vehicles from starting without a special code.
