It’s 2005 and the technological advancements of the world continue to grow in leaps and bounds. This month, AGRR is looking at some of the technological advancements that are on the market for the auto glass industry.
AutoCAD for Auto Glass
Albat+Wirsam Software AG, a Hertfordshire, England-based software company, has created Shaping and Nesting 4, a computer-aided design (CAD) system that aids in the cutting of auto glass.
Equipped with a “streaming mode” function that digitalizes templates with a tracing wheel, the program recreates the shape with arcs and straight lines, ensuring the proper shape and smoothness with the use of “measuring points.” According to company literature, the program also offers a function that finds the smallest area in which two shapes can be nested for the most efficient cutting.
e-DirectGlass™ Introduces TSM
e-DirectGlass, a software company from Scottsdale, Ariz., offers a Total Shop Management package that aims to make shops’ “claims processing experience a positive and profitable one.” The Internet based program streamlines claims management, marketing, accounting, production scheduling and other tasks. The company advertises benefits of the program that include reduced double entry and automates cost authorization.
Ordering OE Parts Online
OEConnection LLC, a provider of web-based supply chain, order management and data mining and reporting solutions for the automotive and collision repair industries, has announced the launch of CollisionLink® v3, e-commerce ordering software for original equipment (OE) parts.
The new program includes the product’s ability to accommodate every make and model for all OE parts ordering. Users can check order status and confirmation on one screen; work can be done in both online or offline mode. The program also offers enhancements for dealerships’ wholesale parts departments, including aftermarket and remanufactured parts.
The feature provides dealerships the chance to bid on additional business while the addition of scrubbing, used in the VIN validation process, helps save time and reduce returns with instant identification of incorrect or questionable parts.
Mitchell’s New ABS® (7.4)
San Diego-based Mitchell International has announced the latest release of its ABS Shop Management System. A collision-repair business management solution, ABS automates many functions that help shops accelerate throughput and focus on customer satisfaction.
ABS 7.4 includes new features such as integrated email and event-messaging capabilities. Users can log comments and notes on jobs along with email capability to ensure all staff and business partners are kept in the loop on the progress of projects. Additionally, enhanced parts features allow orders to be transmitted as email attachments.
Sophisticated features help simplify parts management and more than 100 sales performance, staff assignment, and job-costing/profitability reports can be generated easily to help shop-managers and owners eliminate waste and maximize profitability. ABS also features new interfaces to enhance convenience. Customers can transition smoothly to TruckEst™ heavy truck estimating and/or AutocheX™ for customer satisfaction indexing with no interruption in workflow.
ABS interfaces with BusinessWorks™ and Intuit®’s QuickBooks™, as well as Lawson™ and MAS90™ systems.

Pry, Baby, Pry
Equalizer Industries of Round Rock, Texas has introduced its PryBaby™ tool set designed for prying, smoothing, spreading and removing thin metal and car parts. The five-tool set contains specially shaped sticks made of a tough, flexible, polycarbonate material making the tools almost impossible to break, according to the company. The set comes in a clamshell package for organization within the toolbox.
AEGIS DT6200 Upholstery and Trim Tool Set Available
AEGIS Tools International of Madison, Wis., attended the International Autobody Conference and Expo (NACE) in Las Vegas, November 4-6, and promptly sold out of a five-piece tool set designed for removing door panels and all styles of clips, trim, molding and emblems.
The DT6200 master upholstery tool set is made of heat-treated, high-polished stainless steel blades that the company sales literatures says are and rigid and clean easily. The set comes with a lifetime warranty.
Company information also states that the wide blades are less likely to damage painted and upholstered surfaces than most other tools designed for the same purpose. The blaze orange, two-component handles are ergonomic with thumb stop for maximum control and the blaze orange handle color make it harder to leave the tools in dark interiors.
