GlasWeld Hosts International Meeting 
The International Summit for Windshield Repair was held in Coventry, England, the end of July. The event was hosted by GlasWeld and drew participants from the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Africa and the United States. Participating companies included representatives from Belron, Optic-Kleer and GlasWeld. 

The event was designed to bring together parties from all sectors of the windshield repair industry to create interest in developing an international repair union with representation from the repair, automotive, insurance, safety and government agencies. 

Discussion topics included the state of the repair industry in participating countries, how standards affect the quality of repairs, insurance, regulations, environmental issues, new technologies, licensing and other topics as well as the importance of training in the repair industry. 

Mike Boyle, president of GlasWeld, said, “The best equipment is only as good as the people using it. Training is a crucial element to the repair process.” In discussing training, it was noted that the training time to which companies commit varies from one or two weeks down to one or two hours. 

Glass Technology Offers Training 
Glass Technology is offering satellite-training courses in various locations throughout the remainder of this year and next year. Designed for business owners, technicians and employees, the courses require registration in advance of the designated training dates.

The registration fee of $200 covers a full day training session for windshield repair or glass scratch removal. Limited space is available. “We look forward to introducing this program that will allow Glass Technology to inform, educate, and enhance that quality of work for the windshield repair and glass restoration services across the United States,” stated Rory Most, general manager for the Durango, Colo. based company.

Resin Passes UK Test
Glass Technology of Durango, Colo., reported its Diamond Clear Resin has passed BSI BS AU251 1994 testing. According to company officials, the British Standard Institute (BSI) facilitated testing of the product. 

The product was given a high humidity test, high temperature test, radiation test, visual appearance test, optical distortion test, light scatter test, 2.2 kg ball impact test, 1.5 headform test and a three point bend test, all of which the resin is reported to have passed.

BSI is the national standards body of the UK and develops standards and standardization solutions.

NWRA UPDATE

NWRA Launches New Website, New Operations Director
The National Windshield Repair Association (NWRA) recently launched its new website, which features a new look and new home page.

The site, www.nwrassn.org, offers prospective members the option to request information or join the association online. The site still provides current news about the industry and the history of windshield repair.

“Our new website marks a new dedication by the NWRA to our members and the industry. It’s a better tool for current and prospective members,” said Patrick Smith, who was recently appointed director of operations for NWRA.

Smith succeeded longtime employee Peg Stroka, who has moved on to work on standards development fulltime. She has been serving as a staff liaison to the Repair of Laminated Auto Glass Standard (ROLAGS), a joint effort between the NWRA and the National Glass Association (NGA). Stroka will continue to work on the standard as an NGA employee.

Smith is an employee of Key Communications Inc., which provides association management services for the NWRA. He has served as the marketing manager and member benefits manager for a large health membership organization before coming to Key more than a year ago.

“We are very excited about the future of NWRA,” said association president Paul Syfko of Glass Medic. “We are inaugurating a number of new services for every facet of the repair industry and look forward to providing even more value to our members over the next few months. Every company involved in any type of glass repair should be part of the NWRA,” he added.

NWRA is the only association in the world devoted exclusively to the needs of companies that repair glass in cars and buildings. It provides services and programs to meet those needs and hosts two conferences annually. Its next conference will be held November 3-4 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention Center in Las Vegas.
