What You'll Find at the Show
New Self-Cleaning Glass
Pilkington North America of Toledo, Ohio, will feature its Activ™ self-cleaning glass at this year’s iGm/FW show ’01. The new glass is expected to make window cleaning a chore of the past.
Activ uses a two-part process to clean glass. First, it uses the sun’s ultraviolet rays to break down continuously and gradually organic dirt through a photocatalytic effect. Second, the integrated coating reduces the surface tension of water on the glass surface, which is known as a hydrophilic effect. In this step, water sheets on the surface, preventing the formation of separate droplets and ensuring loose dirt and particles wash away with rain.
“Activ eliminates or reduces window cleaning significantly,” said director of marketing Jim Gildea.
Pilkington will be at iGm/FW in booth 143.

A European Flare
VEKA Inc. of Fombell, Pa., says it has gone back to its European roots to develop what it describes as, “Americanized European Products.” According to the company, this is a new concept that uses American style weather-strip and glazing tape instead of the EPDM rubber gasket types on traditional European products such as tilt/turns and a complimentary double slider.
VEKA will display a variety of new products with this European flare at iGm/FW. This includes the new VEKA tilt/turn which features large reinforcement chambers and a total frame depth of only 2 inches. According to the company, the design is unique in that each allows for a small or large sash combination with one common frame.
VEKA will also be introducing a double slider system, which the company says complements the exterior design of the tilt/turn systems; the SwingView™ all vinyl entry door system; and a new line of fence and railing products.
VEKA will be at iGm/FW at booth 1654.
