LMI Goes Green
Utilizing a new type of EPDM polymer developed by LANXESS, LMI Custom Mixing has developed a variety of new EPDM formulations that it says incorporate renewable resources. According to the LMI announcement, LANXESS began producing EPDM with ethylene derived purely from sugar cane, a renewable resource. The bio-based form of ethylene is produced by dehydrating ethanol from Brazilian sugar cane. Sold under the Keltan Eco brand name, LMI Custom Mixing says it is one of the first mixing facilities to formulate and test extruded sponge and dense compounds derived from this brand.

LMI says it has already extruded and tested various profiles and is presently working on ASTM and FDA specified green compounds.

New Flashing Tape Protects
Protecto Wrap Company has introduced Protecto Form Flash 1 which the company describes as its “most advanced product in this category to date.” The peel and stick flexible flashing tape is used as a primary air and moisture seal around wall openings and penetrations in residential and commercial building construction. Protecto Form Flash 1 is a permanent air/vapor and insect/rodent barrier that not only provides protection, but increases the energy efficiency and Energy Star rating of any residential or commercial structure, according to the company. The product spans the gaps between service components and wall surfaces by sealing any remaining gaps, holes or leaks. Moisture intrusion that can cause black mold is eliminated and energy savings are achieved, the company adds.

AMD Readies for Annual Convention
The Association of Millwork Distributors (AMD) will host its Annual Convention and Trade Show October 8-12 in Louisville, Ky., at the Kentucky International Convention Center, Marriott Louisville Downtown. The event will offer educational seminars, networking opportunities and two days to visit with show exhibitors. A number of companies will showcase some of their latest products. Here’s a sneak peek at what some plan to feature.

Decorative Details
RSL has added several new decorative options, which it will feature at the show. In addition to its new white camed decorative glass, the company also has three new decorative designs.

The Skyline series uses non-welded caming for a clean, contemporary appearance, while Galaxy adds to the company’s collection of liquid crystal bevelpane, offering privacy without the need for brass, zinc or black caming. Paragon is a new geometric design with black caming that offers privacy and design simplicity.

Ample Selections
A number of new products from Therma-Tru will be on display, including privacy glass options, as well as a number of new choices in fiberglass doors.

According to the company, its privacy glass collection is available as an option in virtually all of its door lines. The new offerings include Chord glass, which features a vertical, flowing pattern reminiscent of waves on the water; Chinchilla glass, which resembles a free-flowing configuration, presenting quiet lines and unique curves; Rainglass encompasses ripples of cascading water; and Granite glass features a coarse grained arrangement with surface variations over the entire lite.

In addition, each privacy glass panel is triple-paned and Energy Star-qualified. The textured glass is sealed between tempered, clear glass sheets to provide reduced heat transfer, increased thermal performance and improved sound-dampening features within a reliably-constructed frame, according to the company.

In addition, the company has new 12- and 14-inch Craftsman sidelites. These are available in Classic-Craft American Style Collection (with one panel recessed) and Classic-Craft Canvas Collection (with one panel V-groove plank).

The sidelites are offered in American-Style’s fir-grained texture for staining or the Canvas Collection smooth surface that can be painted. The factory-produced, flush-glazed construction of the Classic-Craft Craftsman sidelites is durable, strong and moisture resistant, according to the company.

As a way to meet consumer demand for fiberglass doors in hardwood grains with ¾-glass options, the company has introduced the Fiber-Classic mahogany collection 3-panel door. It can be configured for either ¾-rectangle or ¾-oval lites in 16 different decorative glass options, plus four privacy options, clear low-E and clear glass.

Lock in to New Options
Hoppe plans to showcase a number of new hardware selections, including multi-point locks and hinges. Included in its display will be the all-stainless HLS multi-point locking system, which is available in a single package. Each hardware package contains everything needed to upgrade to a multipoint door including locks, strikes and fasteners. The packages have been pre-configured by panel height for both single doors and French doors, with both 3-point locking and 5-point locking options available.

In addition, HOPPE offers concealed multi-point locks for operable sidelites, which feature retractable engagement points and concealed strikes. Two lock sizes, each with three locking points, help maximize weather sealing capability for a range of panel heights, according to the company.

Likewise, the company will feature its adjustable hinge, which has surpassed 2.5 million cycles according to ANSI Grade 1 requirements. It is also available in several finishes, including the company’s high-performance Resista finishes.
