YBC Promotes Three Employees
Your Building Centers (YBC), based in Altoona, Pa., recently announced the promotion of Dean Conrad to vice president of purchasing/marketing at the YBC corporate center. Conrad has been employed with YBC for the past four years, most recently as director of purchasing and marketing. Before that, Conrad was employed by Claster’s Building Materials as vice president of operations/purchasing and marketing.

TOM MILLER YBC also recently promoted Tom Miller to vice president of operations and Eric L. Miller to vice president of installation services and manufacturing. 

Tom Miller has been employed with YBC for 23 years; his previous position with the company was as vice president of purchasing and marketing.

ERIC MILLER Eric Miller has been employed with YBC for 21 years. His new duties will include expansion and development of YBC’s installation services to the professional contractor as well as growth and expansion of YBC’s manufacturing operations.

Donaldson Named President of CertainTeed’s Roofing Products Group
CertainTeed Corp. of Valley Forge, Pa., recently named John Donaldson as president of its roofing products group. Donaldson succeeds Jim Hilyard who has retired after 19 years with the company, ten of those as president of the roofing products group.

Donaldson joined the company in 2000 as senior vice president of operations for the roofing products group, overseeing the group’s manufacturing, engineering, information systems, logistics, purchasing and technology functions.

Prior to joining CertainTeed, Donaldson was president of Bay Mills Ltd. Of Oakville, Ontario, a subsidiary of CertainTeed’s parent company, Compagnie de Saint-Gobain of Paris.

In other company news, Mark R. Johnson, assistant regional sales manager for residential sales in the South Atlantic region for the roofing products group, has recently been elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. The Jury of Fellows selected Johnson for his “notable contributions to the advancement of the profession of architecture.”

The NAHB Appoints New Director of Quality Programs
The National Association of Home Builders of Atlanta recently announced that John Novosel has joined its professional staff as director of quality programs. This position entails management of the research center’s overall national housing quality programs and the annual national housing quality award. Novosel will also contribute his extensive experience in quality assurance to the ongoing development of the research center’s certified trade contractor program, said the NAHB.

Tichy Received L.J. Markwardt Award

ASTM Intl. of West Conshohocken, Pa., recently announced that Dr. Robert J. Tichy, a research engineer at the Wood Materials and Engineering Laboratory at Washington State University in Pullman, received the L.J. Markwardt Award.

He received the award for his “outstanding contributions to the knowledge of wood as an engineering material as it relates to the improved utilization of this renewable resource.”
