An Economic Recession? No Way!

Brian Welsh

After attending the International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, it is hard for me to believe that we are in a recession and the economy is the way it is right now.

Just stop and think about it for a minute:

• Three convention halls packed with building products;

• Aisles packed with people;

• People standing in line to pay $3 for a bottle of water;

• People everywhere; and

• People gambling everywhere.

I know what the papers say, but are we really in a recession?

Whatever the situation may be as far as the economy goes, the intention of many exhibitors was to display their latest, greatest products. In this issue we publish a review of some of the products that were on display including a special section about sills and frames. With the new side-hinged door standard being introduced, it is important to stay fresh on the latest components being offered in the marketplace, so be sure to take a look at the article, "Getting Framed".

Another important aspect of doing business in today’s marketplace is ensuring your company runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible. So it’s important to evaluate the software that you are using everyday. In "Track It or Sell It", we offer you the chance to become familiar with the software programs available that would make daily operations more effective. If your company constantly has difficulty locating products in your warehouse or sending trucks out with incomplete orders, then you certainly need to take a look at software programs.

Lastly, in conjunction with the software feature, we are also offering you the opportunity to get caught up on many of the manufacturers’ websites with our First Annual Web Directory on page 30. Many of us are turning to the Internet daily to search for products; this directory is a great way of keeping up to date with the latest offerings, especially if you didn’t have the chance to get to IBS. While you are on the Internet, if you need to find something, be sure to check out our website as well at www.sheltermagazine.com, as we have an extensive guide to manufacturers and suppliers.

Make it a great day!
