Full of Energy
A Variety of Products Are Helping Cut Costs

Consumers are more educated about the building product brands that are going to make their homes more energy efficient than ever before. According to the Energy Star® program, a government-backed program which helps businesses and individuals protect the environment through energy efficiency, “Last year alone, Americans … saved enough energy to power 20 million homes and avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 18 million cars—all while saving $9 billion.”

It’s only logical to stock the products for which consumers are asking. Here are some of the building product manufacturers that are selling energy-efficient building products through distributors and dealers.

Therma-Tru Researches Its Fiberglass Doors
Therma-Tru, of Edgerton, Ohio, has a selection of fiberglass entry door systems that the company says provide an energy-efficient alternative to wood doors. Choices include the Therma-Tru Classic-Craft, Fiber-Classic, Smooth-Star and the embossed steel door, each made with a heavy-duty fiberglass skin and environmentally-friendly urethane foam core insulation.

According to company information, the fiberglass doors offer thermal efficiency that is three to seven times greater than traditional wood doors. The company’s testing has shown results that indicate that fiberglass doors, especially when coupled with quality installation and weather stripping, offer a high resistance to heat transfer. 

AMSCO Windows® Launches Renaissance™ Series Composite Window 
AMSCO Windows of Salt Lake City has introduced the Renaissance Series composite window, which combines the aesthetics of wood with the low maintenance of vinyl.

The company says Renaissance composite windows are made with an alloy of four resins and wood fiber that will not warp, peel, rot or absorb water. The exterior of the composite window is an acrylic-based alloy with a medium gloss finish and is co-extruded. Renaissance composite windows are available in six colors: white, almond, taupe, sierra, bronze and evergreen. Priced approximately 10 to 15 percent less than wood windows, composite windows provide an energy-efficient alternative to wood. 

The Renaissance series offers a lifetime warranty for service and parts and are environmentally-friendly, according to the company. The manufacturing process allows AMSCO to create custom shapes and sizes with a one-week turnaround. 

Simonton Windows Expands Product Offerings
Simonton Windows, of Parkersburg, W.Va., has introduced the ProFinish series of vinyl windows and sliding patio doors. Each of the Simonton ProFinish series product lines includes windows constructed with ¾-inch insulating glass for increased energy efficiency. The product lines also feature fusion-welded extruded vinyl frames and sash and integral nailing fins for easy installation. 

Lines include the ProFinish Master, Contractor and Builder series, all of which can be ordered to meet Energy Star guidelines. 

 

Crestline Offers Energy-Efficient Product Line
Crestline Windows & Doors, based in Mosinee, Wis., now offers the VinylCrest 200, a collection of vinyl window and patio doors. The line includes single- and double-hung, glider, casement, awning, bow and bay and specially-shaped windows, as well as sliding, VinylCrest narrow-stile and French wide-stile patio doors. 

Full perimeter weatherstripping, a ¾-inch insulating glass warm-edge spacer system and a multi-chamber design that fills windows and doors with pockets of dead air inside the frame and sash provide insulation from the elements. In addition, the product line’s welded frames are designed to be weather-tight, minimizing air and water infiltration.
