Handbook Helps Explain Energy Efficiency
The Sustainable Building Industry Council of Washington, D.C., has introduced the “Green Building Guidelines: Meeting the Demand for Low-Energy, Resource-Efficient Homes” handbook and workshop series, which are designed for homebuilders. The handbook provides hundreds of tips, references and contacts.

The handbook explains energy-efficiency, passive- and active-solar strategies, natural ventilation, water conservation and appropriate building materials to home designs early in the process.

The one-day or half-day workshops address site- and climate-specific matters, and typically include local case studies. These workshops occurred most recently in Maryland, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Washington, D.C.

Brochure for Users of Western Red Cedar
Weyerhaeuser Building Materials of Federal Way, Wash., is offering its “CEDARONE™ Distinctive Landscapes” brochure to consumers and others interested in using Western red cedar for their outdoor landscaping projects. 

The 15-page brochure offers full-color product photos, landscaping project ideas for arbors, trellises, benches, planters, decks and gazebos. It also includes information on product standards and recommendations for finishing Western red cedar products.

Schramm Hardwood Plywood Manual Republished
Purdue University Press has republished Columbia Forest Products (CFP) training manager Ang Schramm’s “A Complete Guide to Hardwood Plywood and Face Veneer” (formerly) “A Hardwood Plywood Manual.”

According to Purdue, the book’s 136 pages are organized into sections covering variations in appearance, the veneer manufacturing process, types of veneer matching, grades and product standard, substrates, the hardwood plywood manufacturing process, meeting customer expectations and troubleshooting common problems.

Style Solutions™ Introduces Catalog for Flexible Products
Archbold, Ohio-based Style Solutions Inc. has issued a “Flexibles Catalog” for use by building industry professionals. The 14-page catalog includes detailed profile descriptions and diagrams, scale profiles and product part identification information for almost 100 flexible pieces of moulding and trim. Installation guidelines also are included in the free brochure.

The catalog includes product sections for the following: elliptical and eyebrow casing, half-round arches, mouldings, casings, base trim and accessories. The company says the catalog is ideal for both interior and exterior applications and can be used for jamb extenders, arch jambs, custom-shaped arches, crown applications and curved walls.

Georgia-Pacific Brochure Showcases Moulding Designs
Atlanta-based Georgia-Pacific (G-P) provides ideas for the use of combination moulding in every room of the house in its “Combination Moulding Designs” brochure. 

The brochure offers an introduction to moulding profiles and includes color photographs. Black-and-white line drawings illustrate the exact combination of mouldings used in each photograph and identify each kind.

Georgia-Pacific offers a full line of high-quality softwood, hardwood and medium-density-fiberboard lengths shaped for use as crown moulding, picture moulding, base and base cap, chair rail, door and window trim.

SPC Offers a Variety of Education Brochures
The Southern Pine Council (SPC) of Kenner, La., provides a variety of brochures to building professionals interested in using pressure-treated wood.

Brochures include “Answers to Questions about Pressure-Treated Wood,” “Pressure-Treated Southern Pine,” “Pressure-Treated Southern Pine Takes the Bite Out of Formosan Termites” and “Garden and Outdoor Idea Book.”

Six-Page Sagebrush Siding Booklet and Polar Wall Brochure
Norandex/Reynolds Distribution has created a six-page, four-color booklet on its Sagebrush® siding outlining its features and the reasons the company thinks customers should choose the product.

According to the company, Sagebrush siding has a .050 nominal thickness and a durable panel that resists warping and protects against impact. The company further states that the siding is engineered to eliminate appearance problems caused by improper installation with a nail hem that includes a built-in hammer stop and staple guide.

In addition to the Sagebrush booklet, Norandex/Reynolds has also created a four-page booklet providing information about its Polar Wall® Plus! Insulated siding, featuring laminated foam backing for added strength and rigidity. It is now available in premium colors with ColorHold™ acrylic capping resins. Polar Wall Plus also offers 4-inch clapboard and double 5-inch dutchclap profiles and a limited lifetime warranty.
