Sher-Wood® Is Ideal for Exterior Wood Mouldings
Sher-Wood W/R WDMA Primer is a new, high-performance, water-reducible acrylic latex primer from the Cleveland-based Sherwin-Williams Chemical Coatings division. The company says the primer meets WDMA T.M.11-2000 standards, that it dries fast, sands easily and fills open grain in soft woods and medium-density fiberboard (MDF). The low-odor, single component, non-photochemically-reactive primer has VOCs of less than 0.42 pounds per gallon and no critical recoat time. It may be topcoated with water-based latex coatings.
The primer poses no fire hazard and may be reduced and cleaned up with water. The company says it is ideal for priming interior/exterior preserved-wood products, such as interior moulding, fascia and trim, window parts, door jambs and shutters.

Sierra Pacific Manages Forestlands
Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) of Redding, Calif., owns and manages more than 1.5 million acres of timberland in Northern California. The company also manufactures specialty window and door components.

SPI’s two millwork plants are supplied by these forestlands, predominately made up of ponderosa pine. The company says all timberlands are managed for sustained yield and are third-party certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative guidelines, allowing product labeling for finger-jointed mouldings, solid mouldings and wood windows.

The group says that because of its active management of forestlands customers are assured of a continuous supply of ponderosa pine for generations to come.

Gain Back More Warehouse Space
There is a way to store up to 50 percent more mouldings in the same amount of space. Ross Clark Material Handling of Rancho Cordova, Calif., says that by switching to metal racking, you can manage inventory better without having to increase warehouse storage.

The company says metal racks take up less space, hold more stock and are completely adjustable. Inventory set-up is versatile because divider arms are placed on 2-inch centers to allow storage of any width of moulding. It can carry smaller quantities of some SKUs and larger amounts of others.
