DECK DETAIL

New Looks, Feels, Usage for Decking

Summer is upon us and many will be venturing outside for cook-outs and other summer fun. Many will also be looking for a place to have said cookout, and what better than a deck? If you distribute or build with decking materials, know what’s out there for those customer sales.

DECKING

Deck Lok Designed for Real Wood Look
Royal Crown Ltd., a manufacturer of vinyl decking and fencing products based in Milford, Ind., is helping homeowners create outdoor living and entertaining spaces with its customizable vinyl Deck Lok™ systems. The decking, railing, trim and column components interlock for seamless form, function and versatility. The system features easy installation, weather resistance and care-free maintenance. All Deck Lok plank components are crafted using a special tri-color extrusion process to create realistic, variegated textures mirroring the natural colors and look of real wood.

The decking design is available in two color combinations of light sandalwood on one side and dark sandalwood on the other, or light and dark driftwood. Planks are self-spacing for secure alignment and one-piece, easy-lock assembly that makes herringbone designs and angles easy. The planks also feature non-slip, embossed surfaces for personal comfort and safety.

TimberTech® Introduces Deck Drainage System
TimberTech, based in Wilmington, Ohio, has introduced DrySpace™, a deck drainage system that channels water away to keep the area below a second-story deck dry and functional. The three-piece system is easy to install and provides homeowners with additional outdoor living or storage space.

When properly installed, DrySpace diverts water away from a house’s foundation before it falls through the gaps of a deck. The drainage system is made from solid vinyl for maximum strength, durability and weather resistance. It installs easily to the underside of any new or existing deck spanning 12, 16 or 24 inches on-center. The product is available in off-white to give the area under the deck a bright, crisp look, according to information from the company.

Fletcher Introduces Armourwood
Fletcher Wood Solutions, the Baltimore-based operation of New Zealand manufacturer Tenon Ltd., has begun the roll out of Armourwood®—real wood products that are pressure-treated with an organic biocide formula to prevent infestation by timber-destroying fungi and wood-destroying borers and termites.

The active ingredients of this new-generation treatment are insoluble in water and as a result will not leach out of any treated product. The chemicals won’t eat up fasteners like screws and galvanized nails, a problem that other CCA alternatives have faced.

Armourwood chemicals are approved by the EPA, and the product is backed by a limited 25-year warranty.

The company is focusing first on pre-primed exterior house trim, fascia and siding made from New Zealand finger-jointed Radiata pine but plans to extend the Armourwood product range to include millwork products, such as window and door components.

Finyl Vinyl Offers a Selection of Pergolas
Finyl Vinyl Building Products Inc., a Huntington Beach, Calif.-based manufacturer of vinyl exterior building products, has introduced a new line of outdoor pergola kits.
The pergolas are fabricated from high-quality polyvinyl chloride components and the vinyl structural elements are reinforced with galvanized steel for strength and durability.

In addition to strength, the high-impact, weather-resistant structures are also durable. They will never rot, rust or corrode, are impervious to insects, and will not chip, peel or splinter.

With open sides and a variety of beam designs, the pergola kits offer a variety of designs and sizes to complement virtually any backyard setting. Altogether, five styles are available, in sizes that range from 8 by 8 feet, to an expansive 24-by-16-foot structure. All styles can be mounted either on a slab or in ground, as a freestanding structure or attached to the home. Finyl Vinyl pergola kits are available in either white or tan on several models.
