Improved Door Plugs Now More Ideal
Ideal Door Components’ quality Chick’s® door plugs will soon be offered with a new and improved high-impact, anti-vibration bolt/washer. The improvement will allow the use of the company’s standard door plugs on heavy interior and exterior door units.

The door plugs are used not only in door shops to eliminate damaged door units during shipping, they are also used on the job site as an installation guide while setting the door unit in the rough opening. The door plugs are also used as a temporary latch to keep exterior doors closed during inclement weather.

The company’s sidelite door plug can be used on the job site as a temporary construction lock as it incorporates a compression-key system preventing entry from outside after work hours.

Great Lakes Window® Earns Energy Star® Rating
Great Lakes Window of Toledo, Ohio, a manufacturer of all-vinyl custom replacement windows and patio doors, has earned an Energy Star certification by the U.S. Department of Energy for its energy-efficient products, including double and triple glazed door and window units with low-E and gas-filled Warm-edge Intercept® glass.

All Great Lakes Window products are tested and approved by the National Fenestration Ratings Council (NFRC) to determine how well they prevent the transfer of heat through the window unit.

Although all of the company’s products meet the Northern Energy Zone requirements with optional glass packs and are NFRC certified, many of the premium products manufactured by the company have U-Factors under .20, offering homeowners even greater thermal performance and value.

The energy-efficient performance of the windows begins with the uiPVC frames, manufactured for strength and durability. The frames include multi-chambered extrusion designs, as well as Fiberbeam® reinforcements that add protection against flexing but do not conduct cold like metal does. With patented R-Core® insulation to surround the Fiberbeam reinforcements and fill the chambers, the windows provide frame R-factors up to 20. The optional Maxuus® 10 insulating glass system further enhances energy performance.

The fabric and tape has been used widely in Europe and was tested in the United States recently as a disposable release surface in corner welding of plastic windows.
