RAILINGS AND POSTS
B.W. Creative Wood Offers Tempered-Glass Railing System
B.W. Creative Wood of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, has introduced CLEARVIEW, a new tempered-glass railing system, which company officials say offers the ultimate in simplicity and low-maintenance. Made with 8-millimeter clear tempered safety glass, CLEARVIEW is 25-percent thicker than typical glass railing sections. The 6-foot glass railing system consists of two pre-engineered, cedar top and bottom rails, a contemporary cap rail and seven, 8 millimeter-thick by 6-inch-wide clear tempered safety glass panels.

This unique and innovative railing system allows users to simply set the bottom rail and place the 6-inch-wide glass panels into the pre-engineered rail slots, according to company officials.

CLEARVIEW has been designed for use on all deck surfaces—wood, composite or vinyl, and is available in two heights—36 inches and 42 inches—and one universal height for stair application. According to its manufacturer, the railing has been tested to meet the National Building Code of Canada.

DECKING
Railing Dynamics Inc. Introduces the Latest Innovation in Decking

Egg Harbor Township, N.J.-based Railing Dynamics Inc.(RDI) has launched a new decking product, Strata®, providing an earth-friendly, smart alternative to wood and composites, according to company officials.

A two-layered deck system, Strata is a “hybrid” with a base board of pre-consumer scrap polymers which are injection molded to produce strength and stability with a vinyl top layer, or deck skin, which is as easy to install and maintain as it is beautiful.

“Strata is the result of the combination of state-of-the-art engineering and chemical science, and we are certain that it (Strata) is going to explode throughout the marketplace.

People want products they can trust combined with the newest technology and Strata certainly meets those demands,” said Chris Schneider, product development engineer for RDI.

Strata’s two-layer design allows for simple installation and, unlike traditional decking systems, requires very little maintenance. The strong yet lightweight base boards install easily thanks to the built-in spacers and the elimination of fasteners or tracks, according to a company release.

The vinyl deck skin’s Mosaic design provides a non-slip surface that won’t stain or fade like composites. And because the skins are so simple to install, they can be easily replaced for a completely new look. With the versatility of the system and three colors to choose from—Victorian gray, earth and sage—homeowners can change the color of their deck as their tastes change for a fraction of the cost of the system. With Strata, homeowners will never have to paint or seal their decking, and children won’t complain about their hot, sore feet, since Strata stays cool to the touch and won’t rot, crack or splinter, according to company information.
