The Next Big Thing
FRAMES AND SILLS
A Frame with No Thirst
For those builders who want wood, but don’t want call-backs for rotted frames, Endura’s FrameSaver is rot- and moisture-resistant. FrameSaver® technology features a 4-inch piece of composite material that’s fingerjointed with a wood composite material at the bottom of a wood door frame. The end result is a frame that will not allow water to wick up, yet sands and finishes just like wood. The Colfax, N.C.-based company says its product features a rot-proof lifetime guarantee and is available in entry, patio and garage door frames. www.enduraproducts.com
Nickel Sills That Don’t Rot or Leak
Need a sill that looks great but doesn’t leak or rot? Young Manufacturing Co. Inc. in Beaver Dam, Ky., has added a nickel finish to its collection of exterior door sills. The new finish is available on its HP Clad® Sill, which features a high-performance design, exclusive flashing weatherstrip, furniture-grade oak interior and an all-clad exterior. The AA Top Drain® Sill is also available in the new nickel finish and features a unique storm drain that serves as a second line of defense against door leaks. www.youngmanufacturing.com
Rain Water is Gone with the Wind
Pemko says builders can ensure that structures are protected from water damage before it starts by its Water Protection System™ (WPS™) sill. As rainwater accumulates near the door opening, it collects on the underside of the door. WPS™’s design and redirection chambers use wind’s natural air pressure to force water out through the front side of the sill.
The Ventura, Calif.-based company says its product is warranted leak-resistant, rot-resistant and low-maintenance. www.pemko.com
Does Peppercorn, Praline, Irish Cream or Toffee sound tasty? Merillat Industries has added these color options to its built-to-order semi-custom cabinetry. The Adrian, Mich.-based company says the new colors and a new mullion glass door series allow builders and homeowners more design flexibility. Three new mullion glass doors have been created just for Merillat Masterpiece and new SKU’s will be available for wall and base cabinets, tall cabinets, home office, vanity cabinets, storage and organizational solutions, glass inserts and doors. www.merillat.com
The Look of Ceramic with No Thinset
First it was thickset; then it was thinset; but now, how about no set? Ceramico glueless laminate planked tile flooring has the look of high-quality ceramic tile, but installs with a click-together joinery system and no adhesive. BHK of America says it has added four new colors to this line, bringing the total to more than 50. The Central Valley, N.Y.-based company offers additional glueless products including wood, cork and laminate.4 www.bhkuniclic.com
A Lock that Knows
Remember watching those sci-fi films where people could unlock doors with a touch of the hand? Guess what, the time has come. Homeowners don’t need pointed ears to open their home’s entry door with just a touch. Kwikset says they just need its SmartScan product. The Lake Forest, Calif.-based provider of residential security products has made it possible to unlock an entry door by just swiping your finger under the lock. The specially-designed lock utilizes biometrics to perform a fingerprint scan and automatically unlock a deadbolt for authorized users. SmartScan also has the ability to remember up to 50 users and can allow temporary or scheduled entry at the homeowner’s control. www.kwikset.com
