The Land of Millwork Products
Increase Sales and Profits with AMD Members’ Products

The Association of Millwork Distributors (AMD) has been a leader in the millwork industry for more than a quarter of a century. The merger of the Southern Sash and Door Jobbers Association (founded in 1931) and the Northern Sash and Door Jobbers Association (founded in 1935) established this organization as the National Sash & Door Jobbers Association in 1963. In 2003, the association adopted the name Association of Millwork Distributors to reflect the association’s position in the industry better.

One of the association’s goals is to provide its distributor members with all the tools and services necessary to produce sales and profits, and that’s a goal of Shelter magazine too. For the fourth consecutive year, Shelter and AMD have teamed up to show the latest products and services from AMD manufacturer members. So read on to find products that will increase your sales and profits.

Take the New with the Old
Builders Automation of Largo, Fla., not only has new equipment but also has remanufactured door equipment that has been upgraded with today’s technology. The pre-hung door machine is capable of producing 6-foot 8-inch through 8-foot doors, can have pre-drill, flush hinge routing and hinge applications added at order entry or field-installed at a later date. The machine is industrial processor-controlled, uses proximity sensing and has added engineering upgrades to enhance the flexibility and reliability of the equipment. The company says it can change out a machine with minimum interruption often in less than four hours. It will swap out machines and take old equipment in on trade. The equipment comes with a standard one-year manufacturer’s warranty and has a base machine priced at under $60,000. www.buildersautomation.com

Enhanced Trimmer with Automatic Sizing
Full House of Melbourne, Fla., offers a new, enhanced trimmer with automatic sizing. The company has added an operator touch screen and servomotor for single-touch recall to the trimmer. Lengths can be typed in or selected from up to 200 pre-sets; there’s no need to remember all the different lengths. The trimmer’s program ensures the saw keeps consistent lengths, and material counters also are included. Company officials say the trimmer has the speed, accuracy and versatility to meet the changing demands of today’s door shops.

Additional features include: the machine can miter casing and brickmold up to 4 ½ inches wide; process jambs up to 7 ¼ inches wide; 12-inch carbide tipped blades that can process wide material; and more. www.full-house.com

Get Started with Starter Stair Shop Program
Merrick Machine Co. (Triad/Ruvo) of Alda, Neb., has introduced its new Starter Stair Shop program for the component industry. The program is comprised of the Template Stair Router (TSR) and Staircase Assembly Clamp allowing current non-stair builders to get into the business.

The TSR is designed to provide years of service with simple operation. An operator can load two 2- by 10- or 2- by 12-inch stringers, set up the adjustable rise, run and nose clearance quickly and start routing. Two heavy-duty 3 ¼-horsepower, single-phase routers can cut both stringers simultaneously with the template-guided stair profiles, or the operator can choose to cut the top or bottom stringer only. Triad’s TSR can accommodate standard profiles, no riser profiles and split stringer configurations. It features mechanically-aided material indexing, quick changing templates and composite followers.

Also from the company is the new Ruvo 930 Hercules Door Machine. The door, hinge jamb and strike jamb all are machined simultaneously with this new interior/exterior door machine.

An interfaced touch screen allows for a quick change to machine doors of different dimensions. The touch screen reveals the cycle time for each function performed and monitors the status of the bits. Lineal bearing on the router bar and router delivers a consistent smooth operation, according to the company. www.merrickmachine.com

 The Eagle has Landed
The Eagle by Norfield Ind. of Chico, Calif., is designed for door shops requiring both speed and the flexibility to handle a variety of door types and materials. The Eagle uses a door edge referencing sequence, so that hinges are consistently mortised at desired depths and locations. This eliminates set-up and calibration time when changing door height and thickness. Changeovers from 6-feet 8-inch to 8-foot door heights are made with a one-touch A-B hinge pattern change. The operator touch screen (7-inch standard, 10-inch optional) includes system alerts, on-screen diagnostics and integrated system controls. Additional options include a hinge application system, hinge pre-drilling, auto-width indexing and ball catch drilling. The Eagle can be combined with Norfield’s 530 Loader, the 560 Sizer/Beveler and the 540 Assembly Center for a complete production line.  www.norfield.com
