SHELTER’s Editor
Gives Birth to Baby Girl
SHELTER’s editor, Samantha Carpenter,
gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on
Friday, August 8, 2008. Born just after 2
p.m., Cora Stone Carpenter was eight
pounds seven ounces and measured 20
inches in length. Mother and daughter
returned home Saturday, August 9th, and are both doing well. Little Cora joins a
proud father, Jeff, and twin older brothers, Clay and Owen, who anxiously
awaited
her arrival.

MMPA Appoints Morrison
The Moulding and
Millwork Producers
Association (MMPA), formerly
known as the Wood
Moulding and Millwork
Producers Association or
WMMPA (see related item on
page 16 of In the News),
recently appointed John Morrison, president
of Sunset Moulding Company in Live Oak,
Calif., as its new president. Newly appointed
officers serving under Morrison include: Ted
Smith of Smith Millwork, vice president;
Craig Young of TLC Mouldings, treasurer;
Kellie A. Schroeder of WMMPA, executive
vice president; and immediate past president
Tom Williams of Yuba River Moulding and
Millwork. WMMPA officials say Morrison
will serve as the association’s leader through
the March 2010 Winter Business Meeting in
Cancun, Mexico.
OBITUARIES
Borgelt Passes at 44
William J. (Bill) Borgelt Jr., 44, passed away Saturday,
August 23. Borgelt was a 16-
year employee of Wise Corp.
in Largo, Fla., where company
officials say he played an
integral part in the growth
of the company, eventually
becoming operations manager. His role
evolved into machine engineering and
design, and with great zeal and energy,
friends and officials say he pioneered many
of the modern features seen on door and
millwork equipment today. In its inaugural
contest in 2006, SHELTER recognized Borgelt
as one of the “Most Influential People” in
the industry. He is survived by his wife Julie,
his parents William and Margaret, two sisters,
Jaqueline Borgelt and Sherry Gerow,
and his second family at Wise Corp.
APPOINTMENTS
Skinner to Serve
as SierraPine President
The SierraPine board of directors recently
appointed Jim Skinner its new president.
Skinner has been the Roseville, Calif.-based
company’s chief financial officer since 2000
and also held the position of vice president,
East Coast Operations when he joined the
composite panel producer in 1999.
“I am honored in the confidence the ownership has placed in me to lead SierraPine into the future,” Skinner says. “The composite panel industry certainly has a few challenges in front of it, but I am excited to seize the opportunities we have as a company ...”
Skinner has a 37-year career in the wood products industry in both operations and finance.
Bostik C&D Division Announces
Several Sales Promotions
Middleton, Mass.-based Bostik Inc.’s construction
and distribution (C and D) division
has announced a number of regional sales
manager promotions. Tom Mylott is the
new north region sales manager; Brian
Kelley is the new south region sales manager;
and Rick Tredwell is the new western
region sales manager.
Mylott most recently served as national sales manager for the C and D division’s Chem-Calk® commercial and Bostik Home® residential construction sealants and adhesives; Brian Kelley previously served as the C and D division’s east region sales manager responsible for flooring solutions; and Rick Tredwell previously served as west region sales manager for the division’s flooring solutions, and now has sales management responsibility for Chem-Calk® commercial and Bostik Home® residential construction sealants and adhesives.
Kingery Joins Platte Valley Woodworks
Platte Valley Woodworks based in Fort
Collins, Colo., has hired Dan Kingery as its
new vice president of sales and marketing.
Kingery has nearly 30 years of experience
in building materials product sales and sales
management, and will oversee the company’s
expansion into markets nationwide.
Previously, he served as the western regional sales manager for a national window and door manufacturer; a manufacturer’s representative for door and millwork products; and held a variety of sales and sales management positions with several window and door companies. In his new role he will lead the company’s current sales force as it sets up distribution throughout the United States, beginning in the west.
