Products on Your Mind
Locate New Products to Differentiate Your Company

Does your company need to find new products to distribute? The Association of Millwork Distributors (AMD) has been showcasing its manufacturer members’ products within the pages of Shelter magazine for the past five years. If you are a distributor, dealer or retailer of building products, read on to find out how these suppliers’ products could help you in your distribution or retail business.

The Royal Treatment
Royal S4S Trimboard™ uses 100-percent cellular vinyl PVC™ technology and has a true finished edge. The True Square™ 90°, Stay Clean™ extruded edges have a smooth four-sided finish with Marion, Va.-based Royal Mouding’s trademark Poly Select® surface for durability, with no exposed or dirty cell structure to sand, fill or paint. The product is available in three standard thicknesses (5/8-, ¾- and 1-inch), five standard widths (4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 inches) and standard 18-foot and custom lengths. For added versatility the trimboard is available in both smooth/smooth and reversible woodgrain/smooth finishes.

What a Vision
Vision Products Industries in San Antonio, Texas, is a family-owned and -operated millwork facility that has served the needs of the custom market since 1988.

With distribution capabilities nationwide, Vision Products says it can meet all your custom wood door and window needs in a large variety of species, ranging from the ever-popular knotty alder to whimsical walnut.

The company specializes in historical restoration projects, utilizing the putty glazing and rope and pulley techniques.

Taking It a Step Further
EastCoast Mouldings in Wilkesboro, N.C., has been a primary source for your mouldings for more than 26 years. Now, the company is taking it one step further. A recent investment has given its manufacturing facility the ability to produce any specie, any quantity, any profile of moulding in two weeks or less.

If your customer can sketch a pattern or have a sample that needs to be matched, EastCoast Mouldings can convert it to a digital image and produce it in any specie and quantity.

Company officials say it can produce lineal mouldings in thicknesses up to 4-1/8 inches and in widths up to 11-7/8 inches. Capabilities include the ability to produce matching one-piece radius mouldings in patterns up to 4-1/8 inches in width. The edge gluing and face gluing capacity of the company’s plant is also an asset when considering options with custom mouldings.

No Modifications Needed
FrontLine Building Products in Green Bay, Wis., manufactures aluminum cladding for entry door frames and all aluminum garage door frames. It extrudes shapes that allow customers to clad virtually any pre-hung door in the industry without any modifications regardless of the size or manufacturer of the door.

The system can be utilized in pre-hung door shops or in the field for remodel projects using the company’s retail/retro kits.

Made of Steel
Rainbow Attic Stair from SP Partners LLC in Stamford, Conn., recently unveiled SteelWood, its new entry level wood and steel folding attic ladder. Constructed with the same quality materials and finish of its higher-end products, SteelWood offers three models to satisfy a 22 ½ by 4-inch, 25 ½ by 54-inch and 30 by 60-inch rough opening size.

All models have a melamine finished 1-inch thick door with a Styrofoam core for energy efficiency, a one-piece rigid steel handrail, protective floor bumpers, double-assist springs on folding section for easier operation and a 350-pound weight capacity. Of particular interest to dealers is that one model will handle a height range from 8 to 10 feet, eliminating the need to stock two models for the same rough opening size.

Improve Inventory Turns
The millwork and building materials market demands that you work at peak efficiency and with the lowest operating costs. For more than 30 years, the Ponderosa Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software by Computer Associations Inc. in Smithfield, R.I., has been helping millwork jobbers, window and door manufacturers and distributors and building materials suppliers accomplish these goals.

Ponderosa helps cut inventory and warehouse costs by reading, printing and tracking bar codes on receiving, job tickets, production orders, inventory and cycle counts and shipping documents. The result is fewer picking and tracking errors, improved inventory turns and a higher level of customer service. In addition, real-time information on every item in your inventory is always just a click away. You can set and maintain target inventory stock levels, analyze usage trends and check vendor performance to minimize carry costs.

The Smart Software Choice
WoodWare Systems in Memphis, Tenn., recently introduced their own Business Intelligence Module (BIM), which is fully integrated with WoodWare’s relational database ERP and warehouse management systems. Like most business intelligence systems, it centers on key performance indicators that the users define as critical information they need to stay on top of in order to take timely corrective action.

The company explains that this is an action-based system, meaning that the data is real-time and utilizes dashboards, charts, point-and-click and drag-and-drop access to key data, allowing users to make informed decisions based on “what is happening right now” versus reacting to dated business information used by most add-on business intelligence and data warehousing systems.

Track It
Looking for a way to cut costs and improve customer service? Want to be more profitable with fewer resources?

Milton, Ga.-based Majure Data’s warehouse management system has been helping companies in the building products industry achieve these very goals. The company says its clients have achieved large increases in warehouse productivity and more.

A Revolutionary Formula
WeatherReady® Railing is a new system that brings the revolutionary Milwaukee-based manufacturer’s cellular formulation to a proven railing design, reducing installation time and meeting or exceeding all strength and span demands.

Color-matched rail kits for Gossen WeatherReady and Passport Decking offer a 25-year lifetime warranty and provide the look and security of traditional screw fastened systems with a simple snap-in assembly designed for both level and stair-rail installations.

Color-matched rails come in white, dark goldenrod and Tuscan cherry.

Double the Fun
Turncraft in White City, Ore., a division of Cascade Wood Products, has just released two new patent-pending products for its Poly-Classic® 8-, 10- and 12-inch round structural FRP columns. The TimeSaver™ cap and base is made out of recycled ABS with glass reinforcement that is strong and has good paint adhesion.

Turncraft also has a new packaging/installing bracket. Made out of the same ABS glass reinforced material as the TimeSaver cap and base, this packaging ring holds the column safe and secure during transit. Once on the jobsite this new product can be used as an installation bracket at the top of the column.

The Last Frontier
Builders Automation of Largo, Fla., has conquered “the last frontier” in pre-hung door manufacturing. The company has a machine that can case either split or flat jambs to pre-hung doors. The Ovation Series Automatic Casing Machine pre-assembles casing hoops, back nails the hoops and then positions the hoop on the pre-hung door. The casing is stapled and glued into position automatically. Gluing is an on/off option, and if the door is a split jamb, the machine does both sides. Machine capabilities encompass jambs from 4 9/16 inches up to 6 9/16 inches and casing from 2 ¼ inches wide to 3 ½ inches wide.
