Molding and Millwork

Miterless Crown Fit for a King?
Offer your customers the ability to run crown moulding without compound mitering. Architectural Ornament Inc. in Concord, Ontario, announced it is the first moulding manufacturer to provide matching corner blocks for polyurethane architectural mouldings. The blocks are short pieces of moulding created for laying in and around corners. A 90-degree angle is built into the piece eliminating the need for compound mitering.

Unlike wood or medium-density fiberboard, polyurethane products come in finished sections eliminating time-consuming layering and joining of multiple pieces by hand. The company says this streamlines installation and lowers total cost.

A New Thinner Coating
Established in 1999 in Indiana, A.H. Furnico offers its customers an array of moulding and millwork.

Most of the company's products are coated with a calcium carbonate and adhesive mixture (Jesso), which it says offers a much smoother primed surface than other priming methods. In fact, the company now offers a thinner Jesso coating of less than 1/16 inch.

What a Profile?
Perfect! Wood develops and manufactures superior wood and plastic composite profiles for the building products industry. The company offers exterior wood mouldings that are rot-resistant and won't warp or split.

The company says the mouldings will nail, screw and even saw better than most wood, and will accept paint, glue and stain like real wood.

In addition, the company offers brick mould in convenient seven foot lengths.

Imports Galore
Washington Millwork of Camas, Wash., supplies distributors with both domestic and imported millwork products from South America and China.

The company's product selection includes primed and pre-finished Gesso-coated mouldings, exterior door frames, assorted door components for prehanging, stair parts, spindles, balusters and newel posts, stair treads and risers as well as assorted interior stile and rail doors in oak, pine and knotty alder. Longer doors are available as a special order.

All in the Family
Menzner Lumber and Supply Co. of Marathon, Wis., was started as a family-operated business, and it is a full-line supplier of hardwood mouldings, which include a primed poplar line and veneer products.

The company offers several different specie options which include: red oak, hard maple, soft maple, select white soft maple, poplar, cherry, ash, knotty alder, walnut, birch, lyptus and hickory.

It never hurts to offer a few unique gadgets in this age of tech-savvy builders and homeowners. Swann Communications in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., has unveiled its latest security surveillance product-the Digital Private Eye hidden camera and recorder. This do-it-yourself security surveillance system automatically records images onto a security-digital memory card when it detects motion.

Users have the option of using either a 9V rechargeable battery or AC power, and up to 30,000 images can be stored on a one-gigabyte memory card and viewed on a PC or other viewing device.

Affordable Price and Footprint
If you need an affordable solution to prehanging pre-beveled doors, check out Dotul Inc.'s NOMAD. The Pagosa Springs, Co.-based company says the NOMAD is designed to machine pre-beveled, molded skin or custom built doors and has the same features as its Maverick model, without the beveling option, allowing for a smaller shop footprint.

Like all Dotul prehung door machinery, the NOMAD comes with a two-year limited warranty and it's distributed and supported by Global Sales Group LLC and Dilco Marketing LLC.

For Speed Lovers
If you appreciate speed, consistency, high performance and functionality, Norfield Industries says its newest mid-sized door shop solution is for you. The Chico, Calif.-based company says the 350H hinge routing station routs both the door and jamb simultaneously for hinges, typically in a 30-second cycle time. The machine will accept hinges measuring 3 ½ inches to 5 inches in height and set up for different hinge sizes is quick and easy. Door sizes from 6 feet 8 inches to 8 feet can be routed on the 350H.

Coatings and Finishes

Act Natural
ICA Group, an Italy-based manufacturer of special wood coatings, says it has developed new coating products for interiors and furnishings (such as kitchens, lounges, tables, chairs, bedrooms, bathroom suites and more) that meet the modern requirements for high-quality finishes on designer furniture, without compromise to the environment. The coating products developed by ICA Group are not only technologically advanced, but also ensure a natural look to the wood. A wide range of tones encompasses everything from light, bleached tones to darker shades.

Abrasive Personality
Not all abrasives are made equal. Webb Abrasives in Philadelphia, Pa., says SIA abrasives are specially designed to outperform conventional ones and quickly produce consistent finishes on a variety of substrates. For woodworking contractors, SIA's non-woven, clean and finish range of products are excellent for surface preparation and finishing without excessive stock removal.

SIA non-woven products incorporate high-quality fibers, Clog Resistant TechnologyTM (CRT) and high mineral content to provide flexible, conformable performance, controlled cutting action and long life.
