OBITUARY

Hank Siesel, Original Owner of Locust Auto Glass

Hank Siesel, original owner of Locust Auto Glass and past president of the National Glass Association (NGA), died February 18 at 91. He is survived by his wife, Helen, and two grandchildren.

The NGA trade show manager for more than 30 years, Siesel was known for cruising the show floor in his golf cart and trademark gold jacket. He became the first recipient of the association’s "Hank Award" in recognition of community service in 1980. In 1977, Siesel started Glass Craft International, a stained glass trade show.

Hobart Promoted

Guardian Industries Corp., of Auburn Hills, MI, has appointed Tony Hobart as group vice president, North American sales. Hobart will oversee all North American sales operations for flat glass and related fabricated products, in addition to taking on more responsibility in marketing and corporate direction. Previously, Hobart served as Guardian’s North American sales manager, flat glass products.

Shannon Joins Apogee Board of Directors

Apogee Enterprises, Inc. of Minneapolis, MN, announced that it has elected Michael E. Shannon to its board of directors. Prior to joining Apogee, Shannon was at Ecolab, Inc., where he was on the board of directors, Republic Steel Corporation and Gulf Oil Corporation.

Kamen Named Inventor Of The Year

Melvin E. Kamen of Revlon Technologies in New York, NY, was named Inventor of the Year by the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame for his work in developing a glass decorating technology called Envirogluv. Envirogluv, which Kamen spent ten years developing and refining, uses ultraviolet radiation curable non-heavy metal inks for decorating.

Lind Joins Adhesive Research

John Lind has joined Adhesives Research of Glen Rock, PA, as the new vice president/technical director. Lind previously worked for DuPont Electronic Materials for 12 years in various departments.

Glass Mechanix Teams With Beveridges

The Glass Mechanix of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, has added Robert (Bob) Beveridge, former president of Glas-Weld Systems, and his wife Charlotte to its team. Bob Beveridge will be focusing on the expansion and representation of Glass Mechanix within the international market, including the development and appointment of exclusive distributorships and independent technicians, while Charlotte will serve as a customer service representative, representing the company in trade shows, seminars and workshops.

Viracon Management Reorganized

Viracon of Owatonna, MN, has announced three promotions as a result of the reorganization of its architectural glass group. The promotions included Monte Mitchell being named executive vice president, Michael Diedrich being named vice president of the southeast manufacturing facility and Joseph Marks moving into the role of vice president of sales and marketing. Mitchell, who was formerly vice president of finances for Glass Technologies, Inc., will be responsible for all aspects of manufacturing production, information services and financial services. Diedrich will be responsible for the overall management and direction of the new manufacturing facility in Statesboro, GA, while Marks will oversee the marketing efforts of the company’s products and services and its sales force.

SAF Expands Sales Effort

Southern Aluminum Finishing of Atlanta, GA, has expanded its sales staff by appointing Todd Hamilton to inside sales manager and promoting Brent Sholl to outside sales as an account manager. Hamilton, who was formerly with Carpenter Technology, will direct inside sales and customer consultation. Sholl, who has been with the company since 1996, will have responsibility for contract glazing customers.

Hope Architectural Promotes Manitta

Randall P. Manitta has been promoted to vice president-sales by Hope’s Architectural Products of Jamestown, NY. Manitta, who has been with the company since 1977, served as national sales manager before his appointment.

Vistawall Architectural Announces Changes

Terrell, TX-based Vistawall Architectural Products recently announced a number of changes. The first was the promotion of Tim Doughty to eastern regional sales manager. Doughty, who has been with Vistawall since 1983, will assume leadership responsibilities for all sales activities within the eastern region. Also promoted was Cindy Aveard, who became the western regional sales manager. Aveard, who was previously awarded for being one of Vistawall’s top sales representatives, has also served the Texas Glass Association.
