From accommodating ADA accessibility requirements to providing the appropriate blend of aesthetics and function, door hardware is available in a broad range of options to suit virtually any entrance specification. A sampling of some of the latest doors and door hardware follows.
Von Duprin of Indianapolis, IN, offers the L-series small case mortise deadbolt for heavy-duty door applications. The deadbolt, which meets ANSI 156.5 specifications, features a high-strength steel alloy cylinder retainer, an armor front, a one-inch throw deadbolt, a steel case and a deep cylinder retainer that increases security, according to the company.
The company also offers the e.PRIMUSÔ electronic key control system. The system is non-hardwired and has functions such as rapid re-keying and audit trails that allow maintenance of the key control and security throughout the facility. The company says the system also allows the system administrator to check when a particular lock was accessed and determine which keys can access particular locks at particular times.
Jackson Corporation of Los Angeles, CA, has announced the availability of its 400 series interchangeable spindle floor closer. The company says the closers compact design and low profile makes it ideal for thin-slab applications where floor depth is limited. According to the company, the closer also features a non-handed design that allows one basic closer mechanism to be used for either single- or double-acting, center-hung or offset applications.
Simpson Door Company of McCleary, WA, has expanded its Mastermark collection with two new entry doors. The Beaumont Estate features an extended insert of beveled glass, a broad brush floral pattern and brass cane.
The St. Charles door contains 12 lites of glass, brass bars and beveled glass separating the lites, and insulating glazing.
Rixson-Firemark of Mississauga, ON, has introduced a thin-slab 60 Series floor closer, which combines a fully adjustable spring to accommodate ADA requirements with quality valving and door control capabilities. The new models have a single body for all applications.
Access Hardware Supply of San Leandro, CA, now stocks the S.D.C. PSB560 exit bar, which it says releases any magnetic lock when slight pressure is applied to the bar. The exit bar can release a magnetic lock when either of the two pressure sensors are activated or a mechanical micro switch is activated. According to the company, the sensors may be adjusted from five pounds through 15 pounds without removing the bar if a higher activation pressure setting is desired.
Von Duprin of Indianapolis, IN, now offers an AC power supply with its Von Duprin® ALK alarm kit. In the past the kit had been battery powered.
The four-star Sutton Place Hotel in Chicagos Rush Street area is a study in art deco style. But it is, first and foremost, a working hotel. Function is at least as important as form.
Each summer, the hotel opens one side of its Brasserie Bellvue restaurant to the outdoors, creating the atmosphere of an open air café. To keep the rest of the building air conditioned, the hotel installed an automatic telescoping door from Dor-O-Matic in the passage from the restaurant to the hotel. By offering custom etching on its door system, the Harwood Heights, IL-based automatic door manufacturer was able to install a distinctive glass door while meeting the hotels practical needs.
"We were able to get stained glass specifically made for the door installation to enhance the appearance without taking away from the restaurant," said John Washington, a representative of the hotel.
In addition to offering a trim appearance, Astro-Scopic, Dor-O-Matics telescopic automatic sliding door package features doors that both quietly slide open and closed, and start to open and finish closing simultaneously, and a 79-inch door opening, allowing it to accommodate two-way traffic. In addition, all stiles are evenly placed, maintaining door symmetry.
