Win- Door ’98: Focus on Fenestration

by Regina R. Johnson

The premier fenestration event in Canada, Win-Door ’98 will return for a fourth year with more exhibitors, more space and more attendees than ever before. More than 2,500 professionals from the window and door manufacturing industry are expected to converge upon the Toronto Congress Centre in Toronto, ON, November 18-20 for three days of networking, exposition and meetings.

Organized in 1995 by the Canadian Window and Door Association (CWDMA) at the request of its members, Win-Door promises attendees a focused event just for the window and door industry. Participants will have access to more than 120 suppliers from North America exhibiting the latest in manufacturing equipment, new materials and computer software. According to CWDMA past president Morgan Hanam, "In year four, a new and expanded floor plan will provide better display opportunities, better traffic flow, improving dining facilities and greater business support facilities."

In addition to the 70,000-square-foot show floor, the event will offer participants the opportunity to take part in the CWDMA 1998 Fall Meeting, which includes committee meetings, the Joint Window and Door Council meeting and the 1998 fall meeting.

Last year’s edition of Win-Door attracted 2,437 participants, an increase of 21 percent over the previous year. The event drew rave reviews from many of the 122 exhibitors who took part.

"Most of the window people like the show because it concentrates specifically on the window industry," said Lothar Colberg, president of Witte North America, Ltd. in Brampton, ON. "[Other] shows had too many other companies and products that have nothing to do with windows." According to Colberg, his company plans to exhibit again this year.

Edgetech IG of Cambridge, OH, is another exhibitor from last year that will be returning. Wendy Jinks, marketing assistant for the company, says there are two reasons her company plans to exhibit again: "Win-Door has become the only North American trade show that solely targets the window and door industry. With it being part of the CWDMA annual meeting, the show attracts a high percentage of decision makers."

Jinks added that attendance was very good last year. "We came away with a number of good prospects that have become customers and were able to meet with many of our existing customers."
