Employees of Glass America of Clarendon Hills, IL, have named James D. Bartlett Employee of the Year for 1998. Bartlett was chosen through an annual nomination and election process. He has been in the industry for a little over 21 years and has spent the last ten with the company. When receiving the award, Bartlett was cited not only for his talent and productivity, but for his attitude and willingness to get the job done under any and all circumstances.
Wolfgang Hafele, president of Hafele America Co. of Archdale, NC, died February 21 at the age of 59 as a result of illness. According to the company, Hafele was born as the youngest son of the companys founder, Adolf Hafele, studied business management in Mannheim, managed the Paul Kruger screw production factory and eventually took over management of the newly established Hafele America Company in 1976.
The company states that up until his death, Hafele retained his pioneering spirit and entrepreneurial creativity. He once interpreted his corporate philosophy of customer proximity as: "We have to look at our world through three pairs of eyes at once: those of the end consumer, the architect and the installer. As long as we can keep doing that, Hafele will go on being a success." The company mourns the loss of what it claims was one of the second Hafele generations most outstanding personalities.
Wausau Metals of Wau-sau, WI, has appointed Steve Wetzel as vice president of sales and marketing. Pre-viously, Wetzel was director of marketing for Viracon, a division of Apogee Enterprises, the parent company of Wausau Metals. While with Viracon he led the development of several new products, including Privacy Glass and ViraGuard, a laminated polycarbonate product. Wetzel holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Southern California and has taken numerous advanced management training courses.
Nick Darin has been named controller for Cadillac Plastic. His responsibilities include overseeing general accounting, accounts payable/receivable, financial analysis, credit, payroll and accounting systems and controls. Darin is also serving as interim operations manager for the value-added business unit, according to the company.
The Dwyer Group Inc. has announced the appointment of Robert Tun-mire as president of Glass Doctor. Tun-mire will oversee the franchise system, which currently is comprised of 31 franchisees. He will also serve as executive director of the Dwyer Group and continue to serve on its board of directors.
Thermal Windows Inc. of Tulsa, OK, has contracted Vic Galbraith as national sales manager. Galbraith will be responsible for further development of the companys network of independent manufacturers representatives.
Pittco Arch-itectural Metals Inc. of Chicago, IL, has announ-ced that Mich-ael Bourassa is the companys regional sales manager. He will focus on promoting the companys storefront/entrance and curtainwall systems. Bourassa was previously with United States Aluminum from 1985-1998.
Vistawall Architectural Products has announced recent departmental promotions and additions.
At the Newman, GA, facility Ray Robillard has joined the project management team. Chris Delong has been promoted from engineer technician to estimator. Elisa Duncan is now an estimator trainee.
Naturalite of Terrell, TX, has hired Bruce Clark as project manager. William (Lance) Greer is an addition to the customer service department in Houston and Keith Sayers has been promoted to estimator. In addition, Kenny Peterson has been named sales representative covering Minnesota, North and South Dakota.
Kevin P. Morgan has been named marketing manager for Glynn-Johnson products at the Ingersoll-Rand Architectural Hardware Group in Indianap-olis. Morgan, who was formerly with Best Lock Corporation, will lead domestic marketing efforts there.
John Sutton has joined the Harmon group of auto glass companies as executive vice president of Strategic Development. He will be responsible for developing and implementing new business strategies and working to build strategic partnerships. Other responsibilities include devising plans for new business models and opportunities to help drive sales in high consumer traffic areas.
Safelite® Glass Corp. of Columbus, OH, has promoted Steve Micheli to the newly- created position of vice president of manufacturing operations. He will oversee all the companys manufacturing operations at the plants in Wichita, KS, and Enfield, NC. Micheli joined the company in 1993 and was named plant manager in Enfield in 1995.
Tamglass Group of Finland has promoted Juha Liettya to vice president, production. His responsibility will be the global management and development of the production, research and development and purchasing.
In other personnel news, Neil Butler has been appointed sales manager at Tamglass UK Ltd. He will be in charge of the new machinery sales and company maintenance services in UK, Ireland and South Africa.
Tapio Rauhala is the companys new director, maintenance services. He is responsible for the management and coordination of Tamglass Maintenance Services worldwide.
Cerdec Glass Division of Washington, PA, has promoted Ellen LaLumere to assistant technical service representative for the companys automotive glass business. Her responsibilities include providing customers with technical assistance and on-site training. LaLumere joined the company in October 1998 as a temporary employee in the automotive quality control lab.
Michael C. Hanzel has been elected, by the board of directors, as corporate counsel and secretary for PPG Industries of Pittsburgh. Hanzel has been a senior |counsel with the company since 1990 and assistant secretary since 1996.
