Glass Shops Can Profit 
from the Sale of Security Products

The increased need for security has brought with it a multitude of new security products. The need and demand for these products provides a great opportunity for glass shops to sell some of these devices as an add-on to their existing glass services. To find out about some of these products try surfing the web. A quick Internet search using the key words "home security products" yields 213,379 results. But, if you don’t have time to wade through all the websites, following are a few product offerings you may want to consider as a possible add-on to your glass shop:

Glass Break Detectors

ADEMCO offers a variety of glass break detectors which pick up the sound of breaking glass, the shock wave, or both. Some models mount on the glass, while others mount on the wall or ceiling.

Smoke-Detector Camera

This camera, hidden in a smoke detector, will send sound and black-and-white pictures to a receiver that you connect to your VCR. The camera transmits pictures from as far as 500 feet away. Hidden cameras are also available in clock radios, boomboxes, computer speakers, pencil sharpeners and other devices.

Electronic Door Locks

Intelock keyless electronic door locks include an ultra bright LED readout, code entry, low battery indicator and a tamper alarm, which activates for 15 seconds if the lock is tampered with.

Home Security Systems

The company’s wireless plug-in security systems include a siren, flashing lights, motion detector, lamp controller, two remote controls and two door or window sensors. One system calls a professional monitoring company, while another dials up to four phone numbers and leaves a pre-recorded message. Extra remote controls and sensors may be added.

If you’re not happy with what you see on the Internet, why not view the products up close. You may want to attend a security show, such as the American Society for Industrial Security’s Annual Seminar and Exhibits. Last year, more than 14,000 attendees visited the booths of more than 600 exhibiting companies who displayed home security devices such as alarm systems and access control equipment. This year’s convention will be held September 27 to 30 in Las Vegas.
