Reviews&Previews
Lone Star State Welcomes Glass TEXpo™ 2001
The San Antonio Riverwalk is always a hot spot—especially when temperatures hover around the 100-degree mark. On August 17 and 18 San Antonio became a gathering place for the region’s glass industry when nearly 60 exhibitors and 700 attendees flocked to the Adam’s Mark Hotel for Glass TEXpo 2001.

Texpo Glass TEXpo serves as a prime meeting outlet for the Southwest’s glass industry.

Co-sponsored by the Texas Glass Association (TGA) and USGlass magazine, TEXpo educated those from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, the Gulf states and Northern Mexico. Attendees used this venue to learn about the newest products and safety standards as well as the most effective selling and customer service techniques. The seminars held throughout the two-day event were heavily attended and provided useful information and skills.

There were many networking opportunities that provided social outlets for attendees and exhibitors to catch up with old friends and meet new faces. Despite the heat, spirits were high at the TGA TEXpo Golf Tournament that took place Thursday, August 16 at the Pecan Valley Golf Club. Friday night many gathered at the County Line restaurant after the welcoming cocktail party for some barbecue and good conversation.

The bustling activity on the show floor took a break on Saturday for the TGA Awards luncheon sponsored by Palmer Mirro-Mastics®. Mark Hogan, current president of the TGA, was presented the Lou Green Award for his outstanding performance within the organization and his accomplishments in the industry. Jeff Wentworth, Texas state senator, served as the award luncheon’s guest speaker.

The weekend’s events wound down with a leisurely dinner cruise along the Riverwalk.

Those interested in participating next year can pack their bags for the Dallas/Fort Worth area, October 5-6 for Glass TEXpo 2002.

BEMA Announces 2001 Design Awards Competition

Showerdoor Designed by Shower Doors Unlimited, this enclosure won 2000’s award for under $1,500.

The Bath Enclosure Manufacturers Association (BEMA) has announced its Sixth Annual Design Awards Competition. BEMA says the awards are designed to recognize exceptional bathroom designs using a shower or tub enclosure to enhance the homeowner’s overall bathroom experience.

“The BEMA Design Awards were created to recognize innovation and excellence in bath enclosure design,” said Spike Knadler, BEMA president. “The shower enclosure is often one of the central design elements in today’s bathroom and BEMA is committed to raising awareness of the beauty, efficiency and design benefits of using a manufactured bath enclosure.”

The 2001 competition consists of two categories: installations up to $1,500 and those more than $1,500. Entries must have been completed between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2001. There is no entry fee, but entries must be received by January 4, 2001.

Top winners in each category will receive airfare and hotel accommodations for two to attend BEMA’s annual meeting, which will take place in Houston in March 2002.
