Saint-Gobain Abrasives Acquires Merit Abrasives

Saint-Gobain Abrasives of Worcester, Mass., has acquired Merit Abrasives of Compton, Calif. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. According to information released by both companies, Saint-Gobain and Merit have had a long-standing business relationship, with the two having provided each with the other’s products. 

“The acquisition of Merit is solidifying a mutually beneficial business relationship that has existed between Saint-Gobain and Merit for many years,” said Mark Mathisen, Saint-Gobain vice president of bonded abrasives worldwide and North American distribution and engineered markets. “The Merit brand is well-respected within our industry. We are proud to have them as a part of the Saint-Gobain Abrasives family and look forward to pursuing the opportunities created by this acquisition.” According to Mathisen, Merit’s management will remain with the company.

Kaba Acquires Unican Group

Kaba, based in Germany, has acquired the Unican Group. According to the companies “the merging of these two industry leaders has resulted in the creation of a truly global provider of access solutions.” The company manufactures locks, door systems and other access systems.

Ilco Unican will now be known as Kaba Ilco. 

In addition to the United States, Kaba has a network of factories around the world, including ones in Austria, England, France, Germany, Malaysia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Japan.
