Vitrum Returns To Milan For Its Thirteenth Year

The 13th installment of the Vitrum show will be back in Milan, Italy, June 25 through 28, 2003, with a show that organizers expect to be even bigger and better than its last appearance in 2001. Originally taking place at the Fiera Milano Portello pavilions 14I, 15I and 16I, this year’s show will utilize the upstairs facilities of these pavilions as well, to satisfy the need for extra space due to new applications for participation.

The international exhibition is a mainstay for companies related to flat, bent and hollow glass machinery, as well as equipment and plants and products used in glass manufacturing and processing. Two years ago more than 421 exhibitors showcased their wares for an attendance list that topped off at 16, 284 visitors from 78 countries.

The four days scheduled for Vitrum will be packed with meetings, discussions and plenty of time for experiencing all the fascinating options currently advancing the glass processing industry.

Celebration Of Glass to be Held in Louisville
Contemporary art glass will be taking over Louisville, Ky., from April to July, as the city celebrates Celebration of Glass 2003. Glassworks, the Kentucky Art and Craft Gallery, the Louisville Visual Art Association and the Speed Art Museum have teamed to make the event possible.

The celebration will include an exhibit called “Dale Chihuly: Baskets,” which was inspired by woven Indian baskets seen at the Washington State Historical Museum. Chihuly’s signature series will also be featured at Glassworks under the exhibit title “Dale Chihuly: New Works.” The exhibition is scheduled from April 21 through July 25, 2003.

The Kentucky Art and Craft Gallery will celebrate the grand opening of its new building with “The Glass Vessel: An International Invitational,” an exhibition featuring the glasswork of more than 50 artists from around the world chosen to produce new works specifically for this exhibition. The exhibit will run from April 4 through June 29, 2003.

Throughout the celebration, Glassworks will be showing a variety of demonstrations by recognized glass artists including Dante Marioni of Seattle, Richard Jolley of Knoxville, Tenn., and Klaus Moje of Australia. All demonstrations will be free and open to the public.
