Juba Aluminum Products Recognized for its Safety Efforts by ABCC

Juba Aluminum Products of Concord, N.C., has received an honorable mention from the Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas (ABCC) in recognition of its safety achievements during 2002.

Means Estimating Handbook Updated
Reed Construction Data of Kingston, Mass., has published the second edition of its Means Estimating Handbook.

The 900-page book has been updated with new and expanded technical information.
According to the company, the handbook covers the full spectrum of technical data required to estimate costs for construction projects. In particular, the company believes its handbook will aid construction professionals in preparing accurate quantity takeoffs, comparing design alternatives and costs, performing value engineering and verifying estimates and quotes.

East Coast Glass Awarded Re-Clad Projects

East Coast Systems of Richmond, Va., has been awarded several large re-clad projects in Virginia, A rendering of Richmond’s new city hall. including Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Va., and Richmond’s City Hall.
The $6 million Riverside Regional Medical Center contract is to replace the existing windows and storefronts and re-skin the building with a plate panel system. The contract also includes additional panel and glasswork for the five-story elevator tower.

The $10 million Richmond City Hall contract is to remove the existing stone around the exterior façade of the 18-story building and replace it with a plate panel system. Also included in the contract is the replacement of the perimeter glass on the observation deck and installation of three large glass canopies.

The architect for the project is SMBW of Richmond and the project owner is the City of Richmond.
“We are particularly pleased that both of these projects’ materials are specified around high-end quality products,” said D. Bruce Costner, vice president of sales. “It makes challenging jobs such as these go a bit more smoothly when you have the right suppliers and materials involved.”
