Ohio Governor Names Edgetech “Exporter of the Year”
Ohio Governor Bob Taft recognized 29 Ohio companies and organizations with the Governor’s Excellence in Exporting Award (“E” Award) and presented Edgetech I.G. Inc. of Cambridge, Ohio, with the 2006 Exporter of the Year Award at an awards ceremony June 21 in Columbus, Ohio.
Established in 1985, the “E” Award recognizes Ohio companies that have increased sales volume through exports, increased Ohio-based employment as a direct result of export activity or developed and implemented a strategy to expand their international sales. Since 1991 more than 300 companies have received the award. Each year since 1994, an Ohio company has been selected as “Exporter of the Year,” based on its outstanding growth in the international marketplace and exemplification of the state’s commitment to international trade.
Taft honored Edgetech president Michael B. Hovan and the company for its outstanding export sales, history of exporting and commitment to the Ohio exporting market.
Ohio is the seventh largest exporting state, and during the past five years its exports have grown nearly 20 percent faster than U.S. exports overall.
“What has helped us win this award is our commitment to expanding our business by exporting product,” said Hovan. “Our growth in international operations at our office and warehouse in the United Kingdom and our office and warehouse in Germany is averaging a pace of about 40 percent. We’re now exporting to nearly 60 countries, and we’re clearly focused on taking our product worldwide into the window and door markets. This award reflects the dedication and hard work of our employees.”
The company also was recognized for excellence in exporting in 2002 and 1997.
