Edgetech I.G. Inc. Celebrates One Billion Feet of Super Spacer®
Edgetech IG of Cambridge, Ohio, celebrated the production of its one-billionth foot of Super Spacer on July 24. The company’s one-billionth foot of spacer came off the line as it was filling an order for Oregon-based Jeld-Wen Windows & Doors. The company recently installed two fully-automated Super Spacer lines. According to Martin Seier, Jeld-Wen Canada general manager, corporate services, this partnership has proven to be quite valuable, saving millions in after sales service.
“We always intended to provide a warm edge spacer system to our customers. We originally intended to save money in materials but after a rise in costs—and service calls—we realized it is well worth spending more up front on a quality system as opposed to dealing with issues and unhappy customers on the back end. Considering we have the worst weather extremes in Winnipeg, this was a no-brainer; Edgetech was the only solution. And now Super Spacer is our standard.”
Edgetech’s executive vice president Larry Johnson and regional sales manager Erin Barker presented the 1-billionth foot in a commemorative shadow box to Seier and Jeld-Wen Winnipeg general manager Tod Blanchard at a celebration held July 27 at the company’s Winnipeg facility.
According to Blanchard, the implementation of the automated Super Spacer line was key in Jeld-Wen’s decision to increase its warranty program.
“We currently offer a 20-year package, however, given the high performance Super Spacer provides, we have decided to extend that to a lifetime warranty.”
“This is a perfect example of how Edgetech enables its customers to add value to their customers,” says Edgetech’s Johnson.
“Companies like Jeld-Wen allow us to showcase our true value in working with and understanding our partners’ processes—and providing solutions to improve them so we are able to grow together.”
Just how long is one billion feet? Employees did some research and learned that they would be able to wrap the insulating foam tape around the earth more than seven times, or stretch it from New York to Los Angeles more than 38 times (round trip).
“It took us by surprise when we looked at our data and realized we just produced one billion feet of Super Spacer,” said Edgetech president Mike Hovan. “It’s a very impressive mark and we are extremely proud of our employees who made it happen.”
According to Hovan, Super Spacer can be found in more than 100 million insulating glass units—or 50-60 million windows—in as many as 60 countries. “This symbolizes more than 1 billion feet. The milestone is exciting, but it’s the fact that our customers are part of this milestone that truly makes it a success. High-quality products; valuable relationships; dedicated employees: these are the constants over the last 17 years that have led to this exciting achievement.”
Sherer Studios of Florida Plant to Triple in Size
Glass fabricator Sherer Studios of High Springs, Fla., is the first business slated for the High Springs Industrial Park. The company, which has been in business for 30 years, is preparing for construction and an opening as early as next spring in High Springs, Fla.
Already in a 10,000-square-foot building, the business will nearly triple in size to 28,000 square-feet at its new location.
Owner Richard Sherer says he saw growing sales in North Florida about ten years ago, and he moved from Boynton Beach to High Springs to be closer to those areas.
A conditional use permit for the new site was issued in mid-July, and Sherer says he hopes to start building this month. His business is expected to be the first to open in the new commercial area of the city.
The company currently has 23 employees, but expects to grow in the coming years.
Morse Industries Expands Mid-Atlantic Service
Morse Industries of Kent, Wash., has announced the addition of company-operated delivery routes throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Products are delivered directly from the warehouse to the customer, eliminating additional handling and potential damage.
“Delivering our products on Morse company trucks allows us to control the level of service received throughout the shipping process. We are no longer bound by a third-party carrier and can provide our customers what they need … on time and damage-free,” said Steve Klein, vice president.
The new dedicated routes from the Charlotte warehouse include service to cities in North and South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia.

YKK AP America Inc. has redesigned its website with a new look. The website introduces YKK AP’s new Residential Products Group and its range of residential vinyl window and door products. Oldcastle Glass® Acquires Antamex International Inc.
Oldcastle Glass has acquired Toronto-based Antamex International Inc., a privately-held supplier of curtainwall systems and engineering design services for commercial, institutional and multi-story condominium construction markets.
According to the announcement, Antamex will become the “cornerstone” of Oldcastle Glass® Envelope™, a comprehensive range of architectural glass, operable windows, storefronts, doors and curtainwall products.
“By virtue of its extensive engineering design capability, outstanding market reputation and international project portfolio, Antamex participates in commercial construction projects from their earliest stage,” said Ted Hathaway, chief executive officer (CEO) of Oldcastle Glass.
