Rick Marshall Named President of Wausau Window and Wall Systems
Rick Marshall has been named president of Wausau, Wis.-based Wausau Window and Wall Systems, in addition to his current responsibilities as president of Linetec. Both companies are subsidiaries of Apogee Enterprises Inc. 

In Marshall’s new role, he will work closely with Wausau’s leadership team to continue sales growth for the company’s custom-engineered products and its Advantage by Wausau pre-engineered windows. Additionally, he will oversee operational improvements and executive management at the two companies. 

Marshall joined Wausau and Linetec in 1996 as divisional vice president of finance for both business units, and in 1999 was promoted to Linetec president. Prior to working with Apogee, he was with IBM. He has an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

AFG Names Serge Martin New Vice President, Marketing 
Atlanta-based AFG Industries named Serge Martin vice president of marketing. Martin replaces Fred Wallin, who retired at the end of March. 

Martin will be moving to the AFG corporate office in Atlanta from Brussels where he has been in sales and marketing management for Glaverbel. Prior to joining Glaverbel, he managed the “Energy in Buildings” laboratory for the Belgian Building Research Institute. He graduated with high distinction from Universite Libre de Bruxelles in civil engineering. 

Wallin was named AFG vice president of sales and marketing in 2001. He has been with the company for more than ten years.“I have known and worked with Serge for the past six years, and am excited that he has accepted this challenge,” says Wallin. “His combination of strategic thinking and broad technical experience will be a real asset to AFG and our customers.” 

Edgetech Adds Two to Sales Team
Edgetech I.G. in Cambridge, Ohio, made two additions to its team. Mike Burk, a 15-year veteran of the insulating glass industry, will bring his expertise to managing the Eco-Coat product line. He will lead both sales and customer service teams, specifically assisting in outlining and implementing internal training programs, as well as providing direct support.

Having previously worked with an I.G. equipment supplier, Burk received his bachelor’s degree in business from Myers College in Cleveland and his master’s in adult learning and development from Cleveland State University. 

Beau Jasmer has also joined the company. He will serve as project leader and regional sales manager for the Southwest United States. 

Jasmer earned his bachelor’s degree in production and operations management from California State University, Chico. He previously served as purchasing agent and customer service manager for Pulte Homes Inc. 

Solvay Names Vice President Finance and Information Technology
Michael Lacey has been named vice president finance and information technology for Solvay North America LLC, headquartered in Houston. He succeeds Phil Uhrhan, who retired in February.

Most recently Lacey served as president and chief executive officer of Solvay Solexis Inc., a position he held since 1999. Prior to that, he served as the company’s chief financial officer. 

Lacey attended City University of New York – College of Staten Island, where he studied finance and accounting, and INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France, where he studied in the executive management and development program.

Insula-Dome Names Kroes Director of Marketing and Sales
Insula-Dome Skylights in Yaphank, N.Y., appointed Peter Kroes director of marketing and sales. He will succeed Artie Ortmann, who has left the organization.

Kroes will be based in the company’s new facility in Chester, Conn., and will direct the outside sales force, develop marketing strategies and implement new business development initiatives. 

Previously Kroes served as president and chief executive officer of Roto Frank of America, until the operating assets of Roto Frank’s roof window manufacturing division were acquired by Insula-Dome. After a brief retirement, Kroes was asked to join Insula-Dome in a consulting capacity.

Vistawall Names Scott Rowe Sales Representative
Vistawall Architectural Products in Terrell, Texas, announced the addition of Scott A. Rowe as its sales representative for Iowa and Nebraska. He is based in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Rowe brings more than 25 years of experience in the commercial glazing and glass industry, and previously served as an estimating project manager with Architectural Glass and Metals in Byron Center, Mich. 

Bavelloni Changes Management
Bavelloni (a part of Glaston Technologies) announced that managing director Paolo Sandri left the company for personal reasons. Kaj Appelberg assumed the role of managing director of Bavelloni, while also continuing as the president of sales for Glaston Technologies. Appelberg remains based in Bavelloni’s Italian unit. According to information from the company, the search for a new managing director has been initiated.

Delaney Named Truth Territory Account Manager
Truth Hardware in Owatonna, Minn., appointed Kelly Delaney territory account manager for the South Central United States.

In his new position, Delaney will work closely with door and window manufacturers to assist them in their purchasing and specifying and the development of hardware systems used on their products. Indalex Appoints Chief Operating OfficerCharles E. Ulik has been appointed chief operating officer of Chicago-based Indalex Holding Corp. Ulik will be responsible for all manufacturing facilities in the Indalex North America network as well as the operations of Indalex International, the company’s offshore sourcing capability. He reports to Tim Stubbs, chief executive officer, and has been named a member of the Indalex Lead Team.He holds a bachelors of art in business administration from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Deeter to Manage Novum’s Western Regional
Novum Structures hired Ross Deeter as western regional manager. He will be overseeing the operations of the company’s new San Francisco operations. Deeter will manage projects in a 12-state region that includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

Deeter has more than 25 years of experience in the industry, most recently serving as regional sales manager for Verco Manufacturing Co. for the past 14 years. Before that he worked for Butler Construction. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from San Jose State University.

Shaver Returns to USGlass Editorial Staff
Award-winning journalist Les Shaver has returned to work full time at Key Communications Inc., publisher of USGlass magazine. He will serve in the newly-created role of editorial director for most of the company’s publications, including USGlass. Shaver worked at Key Communications from 1997-2000, acting as assistant editor of USGlass. He also served as editor of AGRR magazine and of Window Film magazines during his tenure. He has continued writing as a contributing editor to both AGRR and Window Film since moving on to work for Army Times and the Special Libraries Association. He has been a senior editor at Hanley Wood publications for the past four years. Shaver is a three-time recipient of ASBPE Awards for editorial quality. 

“It’s great to be back with the company that gave me my start,” Shaver said. 

“We are thrilled to have Les Shaver join our publications as editorial director. His vast amount of experience, including that in the industry, along with his award-winning writing capabilities, will be a tremendous asset to our organization,” said Tara Taffera, vice president of editorial services at Key Communications Inc. 

Shaver will provide overall editorial direction for all of Key’s publications except its Door & Window Manufacturer (DWM) magazine, which Taffera herself directs. 

Kyro Appoints CFO, HR Director
Kyro Group appointed Kimmo Lautanen as its new chief financial officer (CFO). Lautanens was previously CFO of Oy Hartwall Ab for three years, and before that was the finance director for 15 years in the Swiss medical and chemicals group Ciba Specialty Chemicals. 

Vesa Hopia, who previously held the position of CFO, will be responsible for Kyro’s treasury management as group treasurer. 

In addition, Ari Himma was appointed human resources director. Himma has nearly 20 years of comprehensive experience in managing international human resources issues, and joins Kyro from M-real Corp., where he served as an executive vice president of human resources and a member of the management team for almost six years. 

LAMATEK Names Clauss Fenestration Account Manager
LAMATEK in West Deptford, N.J., announced the addition of Janine Clauss as fenestration account manager. Clauss joined LAMATEK in October 2006 and is currently undergoing extensive training on the company’s products and capabilities. 

Previously, Clauss worked as the marketing services manager at a local firm. She specializes in coordinating sales efforts and maintaining strong communication links with clients. 

obituaries 

Christian Haller, Former Cardinal VP, Dies 
Christian A. Haller passed away February 14, 2007, at the age of 70, after a long battle with multiple myeloma. 

Haller came to Illinois from Germany in 1954 and worked as a brick layer. In 1960 he became a salesperson for Cardinal Glass Co., where he later became general manager and vice president. He moved to Michigan in 1976 and managed a window manufacturing company. In 1978 he became a manufacturer’s representative serving Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. 

In addition, the 2007 Glass Expo Midwest, October 9-10, at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel & DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, Mich., will be held in Haller’s honor. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and members of Haller’s family will be in attendance to officially open the event. Haller is survived by his wife, Kathleen, his three children and three grandchildren.
