BEC Conference to be Held in February

The Glass Association of North America’s (GANA) Building Envelope Contractors (BEC) Division technical committee has refocused its efforts under the leadership of Henry Taylor of the Kawneer Co., who reports that its agenda is filling quickly in advance of its next full meeting in February. The meeting, which officially kicks off the BEC Conference, will take place at 9 a.m., February 17, 2008, at the Rio All-Suites Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

“We have assembled an excellent team of professional experts in the industry,” says Taylor. “Our consensus approach on the Committee will enable us to study and solve some of the biggest issues facing glazing contractors on the job today.”

Short-term objectives for the committee include:

  • Creating a glass informational bulletin on boiler plate bid qualifications;
  • Updating sections of the GANA Glazing Manual for the 2008 50th Anniversary edition;
  • Authoring a new GANA manual on architectural fenestration framing systems; and
  • Publishing a glass informational bulletin on key elements of fenestration elements in shop drawings.

glasstec 2008 to Feature Energy Efficiency Focus
“Glass and energy” will be high on the agenda at the forthcoming glasstec, to be held October 21-25, 2008, in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Worldwide reductions in CO2 emissions and careful use of oil and gas resources remain hot topics and have provoked demand for more energy-efficient glass products. As such, the biannual event will showcase solutions for energy-efficient products and production.

glasstec will once again host the Glass Technology Live “special show” and accompanying technical symposium, this time with the theme of “glass and energy.” According to show organizers, both the special show and the symposium will look beyond products fit for mass production to innovations and visions for the future, both in technical and aesthetic terms. Show organizers note that traditional subjects, such as laser technology, functional coatings and nanotechnology will also be featured at the show.  www.messe-duesseldorf.de
