Shopping for a Plate Glass Window
This month USGlass called shops in Louisiana, Florida and Texas for comparative prices in purchasing a plate glass window that is 71 5⁄6-inches by 47 5⁄8-inches. The window is Ύ-inch thick throughout.
The shops we called were very thorough and had more questions for us than we had for them. Is the plate glass for a residence? Does it have muntin bars? Where is the window being placed? How far from the ground does the window sit? Is it near a door? Many shops also suggested they send an employee to measure and install it for
us.
Many people try to measure the window themselves, and then they find out its the wrong size
if we measure it for you, it is guaranteed, said one shop assistant in Louisiana. Other glass shop dealers in Florida and Texas were concerned whether our glass was required to be tempered. The shops estimated we would spend an additional $120 to $150 for tempered glass.
