Decorative Glass Remains on Display at GlassBuild America

Decorative glass remained a prominent feature on the GlassBuild America trade show floor and attendees were treated to a number of eye-catching displays during the event, which took place September 14-16 in Las Vegas.

Standard Bent Glass featured its new digital one-way imaging products, which make use of PET film between two lites of glass.

“When the light hits it, it becomes opaque,” Jeff Nichols, vice president of sales and marketing, tilted a sample to explain. From the inside it’s possible to see right through the image.

Nichols noted that attendees traveling home through the Newark, N.J., airport could see this product in use. It’s been used primarily in interior applications, but the company is documenting testing being done to show how well it can perform in exterior applications.

It was difficult to walk past the Dreamwalls booth and not view the assortment of back-painted glass samples.

John Myers of Gardner Glass Products joked that the colorful samples of Dreamwalls glass are his partner whenever he visits a kitchen or bath shop. “They don’t want to see me,” he said, adding that changes quickly when the shop owner catches a glimpse of the marble or back-painted glass.

Myers pointed out, “We are very committed to our mirror line,” but that it never hurts to branch out.

M3 Glass Technologies had a similarly enticing display. Booth representatives said they were getting steady interest in the company’s new MPrint digital decorative glass. The laminated glass can add color and designs in both interior and exterior glass applications.

At first glance, the Arizona Shower Door booth seemed to have become the Arizona Shower Curtain booth—on a double-take it became evident that the displays were samples of the company’s new imaged glass shower doors. The displays in the booth showcased a few of the options now available such as “beaches and waterfalls,” “fish and marine” and children’s themes.

A team from Lightglass showed a mobile display, as the group was walking the floor looking for U.S. fabricators for its illuminated glass, having received a U.S. patent for the product in May. LEDs incorporated in the glass unit evenly illuminated the sample on the show floor.

Lightglass’ Todd Platzer explained that demand currently is more for interior applications, particularly in retail situations where the glass can make for unique shelving. According to Platzer, the product emits very little heat and the Vienna-based manufacturer is able to offer it in large sizes.

Colorwerks, Glasswerk’s new custom-colored glass line offers paint coat customization thanks to a specialized computer program that supervises paint mixing and adjusts color levels.

Ed Rosengrant, vice president of sales and marketing, noted that the company’s focus is not just on the new products. “We’ve been focusing on customer satisfaction, on-time delivery, customer service … really trying to emphasize that,” he said.

Equipment was also on display. Mike Shelton, president of Cooltemper USA, drew visitors into the Eastech booth for a unique “look” at what the flatbed printer system was capable of; company representatives had printed on a textured piece of glass to show just how detailed the printer could get.
