New Retailer Kit Highlights Clarvista
PPG Industries has introduced a sample kit for shower glass retailers
and kitchen and bath designers to demonstrate the clarity and durability
of Clarvista shower glass compared to conventional uncoated shower glass.
The kits show a single pane of shower glass after exposure to 1,000 continuous
hours of 140 degree Fahrenheit and 95 percent relative humidity. The uncoated
half of the shower glass displays extensive corrosion. The half made with
Clarvista glass maintains its original clear appearance and shows no signs
of corrosion.
Clarvista shower glass is made with a proprietary coating that seals the
glass surface, making it more resistant to corrosion caused by heat, humidity,
soap and chemicals in household cleaning products.

Guardian Debuts SunGuard SNR 43
Guardian has introduced SunGuard SNR 43, a new glass coating for commercial
applications that offers a high light to solar gain ratio and low solar
heat gain coefficient (SHGC).
SNR 43 joins the manufacturer’s other SunGuard advanced architectural
glass products that improve energy performance and help projects achieve
LEED qualifications. It features a visible light transmission of 43 percent
and excellent solar control; its SHGC is just 0.23 on clear float glass.
The coating lets in plenty of light and the low SHGC meets the latest
energy code standards. SNR 43 is available on five float glass substrates:
Clear, UltraWhite low-iron, CrystalGray, Green and TwilightGreen.

interlayers
Curbell Authorized as SentryGlas Supplier
Curbell Plastics Inc. is now authorized by DuPont Glass Laminating Solutions
as a SentryGlas Quick Ship supplier for North America.
SentryGlas, a structural interlayer manufactured by DuPont, is stronger
and more rigid than conventional laminating materials, and allows glass
to serve as a more active structural element in minimally supported glass
applications, such as façades, canopies and railings.
The Quick Ship program was designed to get common sizes and material configurations
to customers more efficiently. At present, Curbell will offer 60 and 90
mil SentryGlas interlayer sheets, cut to size, in rectangular sizes up
to 72 by 120 inches.

BEA Electric Strikes Increase Access Control
BEA’s new line of electric strikes for secure doors was designed to improve
user control over granting access permissions. The Rim Exit, No Cut and
Universal Cylindrical strikes are designed to work in a wide variety of
applications, allowing remote operation of the door’s locking latch.
The Rim Exit surface mounted electric strike eliminates door frame cutting
and is compatible with most doors using major rim exit devices. The No
Cut cylindrical strike fits into a standard ANSI door frame, and works
with all cylindrical lock brands with a ½-inch latch projection.
The Universal Cylindrical strike is an all-in-one kit that includes the
three most commonly used modular face plates for hollow metal, aluminum
and wooden door frame types.
BEA’s electric strikes are designed to promote even load distribution
in the event of a forced entry. Each model is UL/ULC listed for up to
1,500 pounds of static strength and includes a reinforced housing to eliminate
twisting in case of imperfect door frames.

Get a Grip with Marless Gloves
Marless gloves from Banom are designed for use in handling raw glass panels
that will later be coated with other materials. A special palm coating
resists leaving any trace elements on sheet glass that could later cause
a defect when low-E or mirrored coatings are applied. According to the
manufacturer, the gloves’ tacky grip provides positive surface contact
in order to keep glass edges from moving during the handling process.
The MaxPly Dyneema fabric provides cut-resistance and makes these gloves
cool and comfortable to wear.

Intertex Keeps Protection Comfortable
In partnership with textile manufacturer Norfab Corp., Intertex Textiles
Inc. is offering new lightweight Kevlar/Aramid fabrics in its apparel
lineup, meeting ASTM cut level ratings up to level 4. The Cut Pro fabrics
have been engineered with very fine stainless wire inserted into the Kevlar
fabric weave, which dramatically increases the cut level, as well as the
puncture and abrasion resistance, according to the manufacturer. These
new lightweight fabrics represent a shift away from the traditional heavier
metal eyeleted garments, while still offering high levels of cut resistance
and increased comfort.

A Hero in Glass Transportation
MyGlassTruck.com has released the Hero, an enclosed glass carrier truck
body that’s available in 12-, 14- and 16-foot lengths. Engineered for
maximum strength and minimal weight, company representatives say the Hero
offers better fuel economy and more payload capacity than bodies constructed
of heavier materials riding on the same chassis. Its efficient design
utilizes T6 aluminum glass racks as part of a robust frame that supports
the body’s .060 aluminum wall panels.
As standard equipment, each side of the Hero body features full glass
rack coverage and floor-to-ceiling racks can be installed into both sides
of the interior. A translucent roof lets the light in for visibility during
loading and the floor has a non-slip surface for traction. The body utilizes
a full LED lighting system with sealed wire harnesses and reflective tape
around the bottom ledge. Easily removable skirts provide access to the
rear wheels for tire changes and maintenance. Lockable, double rear doors
with anti-rack hardware offer a wide opening to load through and the cargo
bay may be accessed via a rear step-bumper and two stainless steel fold-down
steps and/or an optional roll-out walk ramp that self-stores beneath the
floor.

Wood’s Powr-Grip Adds Purpose with New Lifter
The MRTALPR4 series vacuum lifters from Wood’s Powr-Grip feature flexible
vacuum pads, movable pad mounts and adjustable T-arms to accommodate a
wide variety of glass and metal panel sizes and contours.
The lifters are available in two basic configurations. FS625DC comes outfitted
with four oval pads to enable use on architectural panels with regularly
spaced ridges or curtainwall sections with mullions or similar obstructions.
HV11FDC sports four round pads equipped for lifting flat materials such
as low-relief metal panels, glass and stone.
The vacuum lifters come standard with a high-flow pump and vacuum blow-off
for rapid attachment and controlled, hands-free release. The dual vacuum
system prevents load damage and injury by maintaining vacuum in one circuit
even if the other were to experience a leak. An adjustable-position lift
spool provides three different lift points to optimize the lifters’ hang
angle, making repetitive material placement quick and easy.
