ABI Sees Fifth Straight Month of Gains
Though down slightly compared to November’s score of 53.2,
the December Architectural Billings Index (ABI) remained above 50 (indicating
an increase in billings), with a score of 52, according to the American
Institute of Architects. The new projects inquiry index was 59.4, also
down slightly from the 59.6 mark of the previous month. The sector index

January’s increase for the Momentum Index relative to December was the result of stronger activity for both its commercial and institutional segments, according to the report. The 2.3-percent gain for the commercial segment reflects an uptick in plans for new offices and stores, according to the report, such as a new Chevron office complex in Texas and a mixed-use tower in San Francisco, which currently is in planning.
Construction Employment Increases in 33 States from November to December
Still, the report saw a few notable drops, including Montana, where construction-related employment dropped 4.0 percent from 24.5 thousand to 23.5 thousand.
