Contestants Gear Up for International Tint-OffTM

There is another major competition approaching besides Super Bowl XXXVIII: the second annual International Tint-Off, which will be held January 25, 2003, in conjunction with the fourth annual International Window Film Conference and Expo™ (IWFE).

Last year’s contest drew nearly 30 contestants, and this year’s competition promises to be even more stringent.

Danny Sanders, reigning tint-off champion, is returning for this year’s competition.. Danny Sanders, reigning champion and film applicator for Custom Sun Control in Atlanta, will be back to show his talent yet again. Likewise, finalist Robert Edelstein of Trust the Best in Bellevue, Wash., will be traveling to San Antonio for the competition.

This year’s winner will take home a $1,000 cash prize, 4-foot trophy, custom-made leather jacket and the title of the “world’s best tinter.”

The second-place tinter will receive free registration to next year’s IWFE, along with three free nights stay next year. Third-place will take home free registration to next year’s conference.

The competition will be set up as it was last year, with single-elimination—one chance and you could be out. After each round, judges will make their rounds and will grade applications on cleanliness of film, cleanliness of vehicle, gaps, edge cuts, visible damages and the quality of application.

The distributors sponsoring each contestant will also provide their film, and it is up to contestants to bring their own tools.

Each tinter will be working on the same make and model of vehicle, though it won’t be announced until the day of the tint-off. Hertz is the official rental car sponsor of the tint- off. So, get ready to come out for this year’s IWFE and second international tint-off. No contestants will be allowed to register on the day of the contest, so reserve your spot in the second annual international tint-off now so you can have a chance at the title of “world’s best tinter,” along with cash prizes, a trophy and custom-made leather jacket.
