Asahi Glass Co. (AGC Group) posted net sales of $2.9 billion (335.3 billion yen) in the first quarter of 2017. This represents an 8.9-percent increase from the same period a year ago, according to its most recent financial statement.
Operating profit increased 33 percent to $194.4 million (22.2 billion yen).
The company’s glass sales were up 3.6 percent to $1.6 billion (177 billion yen) from January through March. Operating profit in that category increased 6.2 percent to $62.1 million (7.1 billion yen).
According to AGC Group, sales of architectural glass increased year-over year “mainly because shipments of architectural glass remained favorable in North America and selling prices increased in Europe as compared to the same period of the previous year.” Its automotive shipments increased, as well, “as overall auto production remained favorable.”
