The annual Metalcon show is about to kick off at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and many familiar faces will be on site.
Petersen Aluminum, Wood’s Powr-Grip (WPG), Accurate Perforating, PPG and others are among the more than 250 companies exhibiting at this year’s event, being help October 18-20. According to event organizers, Metalcon hosts designers, builders, developers, contractors, fabricators and suppliers from more than 50 countries to learn about the industry’s latest products and technology.

“Metalcon is a very productive event for Petersen,” says its director of communications Rob Heselbarth. “We plan on gauging reception to our soon-to-open production facility in Phoenix, and hearing input on the West Coast market conditions.”
He says Petersen will also be asking its PAC-CLAD customers and partners what the “hot-button issues” are with the products.
“Our goal is to provide information on the benefits of using vacuum lifters for installing insulated metal panels,” adds WPG’s marketing coordinator Lisa Hagel. “WPG is proud to offer equipment that increases safety and productivity to this market.”
Industry experts will also present key topics in the event’s educational program, which is held in the morning prior to the show floor opening at noon. The program features eight different tracks, including one focused on the building envelope.
One session of interest to glazing contractors is “Best Practices for Installing – and Bidding on – Insulated Metal Panels” (IMPs).
Metalcon promotes this session as covering “the ins and outs of installing IMPs – from the basics to the most complex design concepts and details,” according to information from event organizers. “No matter the application or the manufacturer, participants will learn how to complete a project correctly and according to industry standards. Ideas pertaining to all facets of the installation will be covered, such as unloading, lifting materials, installation sequences, and coordinating with other trades.”
Other sessions cover the use of drones, the labor and employment outlook, and the impact of marijuana legalization on the industry.
