The Houston Area Glass Association (HAGA) has announced the names of the three 2018 scholarship recipients. A formal presentation will be held at the quarterly meeting on June 7, 2018 in Houston.
Weston Ozment, son of HAGA past president, David Ozment with Binswanger, is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship. He attends University of Houston Clear Lake with an expected graduation date of 2021. Weston Ozment has “chosen the field of finance/business/accounting in order to help other people with their financial decisions.” He enjoys volunteer work with the less fortunate, opportunities to travel, learning new languages (Latin and Japanese) and recently meeting two exchange students from Belgium and Ecuador in the Rotary Youth Exchange program.
Katie Emmons was awarded the 2018 scholarship of $500 on behalf of HAGA. She is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in sociology at Texas A&M University.
Lina Solorzano was awarded the 2018 scholarship of $500 on behalf of HAGA. Solorzana attends University of Houston and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nutrition.
The annual scholarship is available to any high school senior or college student referred by a HAGA member. The applicants are judged on a 350 word essay, volunteerism and school transcripts. Applications are made available on January 1 of the scholarship award year.
