ASHRAE 90.1 Fenestration Addendum Moves Forward

ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2016 recently underwent a public review. The Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings includes several references to fenestration products.

As part of the process, the proposed Addendum ab, which is intended to clarify definitions and classifications of the 90.1 standard regarding doors and fenestration, had only minor revisions proposed.

According to the ASHRAE document, “The addendum clarifies when doors are classified as fenestration and when doors are classified as opaque doors. Definitions unchanged by the addendum are included to help toward evaluating the proposed revisions. This addendum does not affect the energy use of the standard and has no economic impact.”

The addendum didn’t receive any public comments, so it automatically moves forward for publication.

According to ASHRAE, this standard is under continuous maintenance, and changes can be proposed at any time by using the submittal form available at www.ashrae.org.
