Thad Ziegler Glass of San Antonio Celebrates 125 Years of Business
San Antonio contract glazier Thad Ziegler Glass, turns 125 this year. According to the company, it is the nation’s oldest family-owned glass company.
William Ziegler and his nephew Carl founded the company in 1893. Originally named Ziegler & Ziegler, the firm specialized in paint, wallpaper and plate glass. After William’s death, Eva Ziegler assumed ownership in 1916 and plans were made to close operations. The company was reduced to just two employees, when in 1920 Thad C., William Ziegler’s son, joined the company with the goal to rebuild with a focus on auto and window glass.
In 1940, Ziegler & Ziegler became a factory outlet for window and auto class. After Thad M. Ziegler joined his father in 1949, the company was renamed Thad Ziegler Glass Co. and expanded to include plate glass and aluminum store-fronts. Following Thad C.’s passing, Thad M. became the sole owner, incorporating in 1969 as Thad Ziegler Glass Inc.
Current president Thad W. (T.W.) joined the firm in 1971, and was followed by sons Thad C. and William. Joining Thad Ziegler Glass in 1998 and 2004 respectively, Thad C. serves as vice president and chief operations officer while William is the company’s vice president and contract department manager. In 2001, Thad Ziegler Glass was converted to a limited partnership as Thad Ziegler Glass Ltd.
President Thad W. attributes the longevity of the company to the “family’s commitment to the highest level of fairness and integrity” when interacting with customers.
“We are dedicated to serving the greater San Antonio Area and its residents. Our company and the city have a long history, and we look forward to continuing our tradition of providing the best possible service to the residents of the city we love,” he says.
In its 125-year history, Thad Ziegler has faced many challenges, including the nation’s largest financial crisis.
“The first challenge was our company surviving the Great Depression in the 1920s. I don’t know the details of how much my grandfather and great-grandfather suffered during that time. All I know is that the company survived,” says Thad W. “When I started with the company in 1971, the contract glazing business was about 80 percent of our total sales and the wholesale business was about 6 percent of our total sales. Retail, residential and auto glass businesses represented the rest of our sales. However, during the recession of the mid-1980s, contract glazing significantly dropped and, lucky for us, the local PPG branch decided to get out of the non-auto-glass wholesale business around that same time. So we purchased some of their trucks, storage racks and inventory. We also hired some of their employees who were involved in their flat glass and aluminum wholesale business. The wholesale business helped us survive the recession.”
Today, the contract glazing business has come back, according to Thad W. He attributes that success primarily to the efforts of his younger son Will. The con-tract glazing part of the business is now 36 percent of its total business, followed by the wholesale business at 20 percent, the service/replacement business at 17 percent, the retail business at 11 percent, the residential instalation business at 10 percent and the auto glass replacement business at 6 percent.
“My oldest son, Thad C., oversees the wholesale business, our retail business and our six other branches. Most other companies either just offer contract glazing or just residential glazing or auto glass, etc. I think that’s one of the main reasons that we have survived 125 years and plan to survive another 125 years,” says Thad W.
The company is celebrating the 125-year milestone by purchasing all 120 of its employees a special anniversary T-shirt and an anniversary Fiesta Medal.
“We have also purchased large exterior signs for all seven of our branches to display, to promote our 125th anniversary. We have already had a local TV station do a nice little story on our anniversary. We have also purchased anniversary note pads and pens to hand out to customers,” says Thad W.

Adelio Lattuada Celebrates 40th Anniversary
Adelio Lattuada is celebrating its 40thanniversary in 2018.
The company’s history starts in Carbonate, Italy (province of Como) in 1978.
“Throughout these years of continuous evolution, thanks to passion, enthusiasm and hard work, a lot of goals and satisfaction have been reached, both at a professional and a personal level,” says Adelio Lattuada, founder of the company. “We went from the first grinding machine prototypes to a production that now includes more than 60 different models of edging and beveling machines.”
Adelio Lattuado will announce more celebration plans in the future, and plans to celebrate the milestone during glasstec 2018 in Düsseldorf, Germany from October 23-26.
