Issue At Hand

11 Good Things

By Debra A. Levy

It’s always enjoyable to get to report happy news, so this month I am having a grand time doing so. That’s because USGlass magazine won a record number of awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) earlier this month, honoring the staff ’s outstanding work in print and video.

Editor Ellen Rogers won three bronze awards, two in print. One for Best Technical Writing for Moves that Matter in the March 2017 issue, and one for Best Special Section for Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season in the October 2017 issue. Editorial director Tara Taffera, assistant editor Jordan Scott, research editor Nick St. Denis and contributing editor Trey Barrineau were also honored for that section. Art director Saundra Hutchison was awarded a bronze medal for Best Infographic Design and video editor Chris Bunn, together with Rogers and Scott, also won for Best Newscast for Behind the Scenes of 2112 Penn, our October 2017 newscast.

USGlass’ sister publication Door and Window Market (DWM) Magazine took home four awards as well. These include two regional gold medal winners—Taffera and Bunn for best webcast series, and DWM editor Barrineau for best news analysis. These entries are also national ASBPE Award finalists, and will be honored next month at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Additionally, DWM won a silver medal for best single-topic coverage by a team and a regional bronze medal in the best online analysis/commentary category.

Two other publications from our parent company, Key Media & Research (KMR), won ASBPE awards, as well. WINDOW FILM magazine won a regional silver for video (news coverage) and a regional bronze for print (group profile). AGRRmagazine took home a regional bronze for print (impact/investigative).

In all, KMR won 11 awards—the most ever for the company.

I am so happy to be part of this team of talented professionals. I see them challenge themselves to be better every day, so it’s gratifying and humbling to see their efforts and hard work honored. Yeah team!
