Guardian Glass Begins Production of Jumbo Coated Glass in North America
Guardian Glass’ 12th jumbo coater, and first in North America, is now operational in Carleton, Mich. The company has completed all testing on the new line and is coating its float glass with Guardian SunGuard SuperNeutral 68 HT.
“We’re pleased to announce that the first project that will fea-ture glass from the new jumbo coater is One Campus Martius, in Detroit, just miles from Guardian’s plant in Carleton, Mich.,” says Rick Zoulek, vice president – Americas at Guardian Glass. “Our partnership with Cristacurva on this project is just the start of a new level of service. We’re bringing value to our customers by offering much larger sizes of coated glass, while helping architects achieve their design vision.”
“Jumbo coated glass from Guardian Glass enables us to utilize Cristacurva’s full fabrication capabilities to make the finished insulating glass units,” adds Javier Sánchez-Gil, chief operating officer at independent Guardian Select fabricator Cristacurva.
One Campus Martius will utilize about 80,000 square feet of SunGuard SuperNeutral 68 HT coating on 8-mm clear jumbo glass with units up to 180 inches high, both flat and curved. The project is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2019. The Campus Martius project is adding more than 300,000 square feet of office space in the city, according to the company.
The jumbo glass is available in the standard size of 130 inches by 204 inches, as well as special orders at 130 inches by 240 inches. The jumbo glass lites will be available in 6-, 8-, 10- and 12-mm thicknesses, with coatings avail-able on clear, tinted and low-iron float glass substrates.
